Following a frustrating and unproductive afternoon with Garden
Designer (Fastrak Publishing) and a frustrating but marginally more
productive morning with graph paper and pencil can anyone recommend
any garden planning software?

We bought FastTrak's "3D Landscape 2 DeLuxe" at the Glasgow RHS Show
earlier this year and found it to be very good. The package was
£34.99 including "Garden Encyclopaedia 2 DeLuxe".

All the best for now,
John

It just shows how different software suits different people ! I hated
the programs, I couldn't get to grips with the 3d landscaping and both
disc have far to much American bias with plants and styles. I did enjoy
the encyclopaedia for some shrubs etc that are universal but missed
details of typical British plants etc and some of the names are
completely different. I still have the programs now unused on my shelf
above the computer and I would rather find the items in a book as I know
they'll be there. I did complain to the manufactures and they said a
more British disc would be out soon but I still haven't seen it and we
never did work out how to join the two together to access all the plant
data!

Still it did help with my RHS Homework:)

I, too, am looking for some kind of software/book/website to help me design flower gardens around the yard. After numerous attempts at planting things with designs that turned out only OK, I'm finally throwing my imagination away (so to speak) and am looking for a source that tells me EXACTLY what to plant. I want something that will account for the amount of sun, watering requirements, number of plants to buy, etc. to provide for a full blooming garden through the season that looks professional. I've tried some web-sites that are supposed to help design gardens, but all they do is suggest plants to buy, and give few landscaping ideas.

So far, I've found one book that I think will be helpful next season: Gardening with Perennials: Creating Beautiful Flower Gardens for Every Part of Your Yard by Fern Bradley. Does anybody else have other suggestions for resources? (any media is fine)

Thanks.

Jen
