Request for no flames, Denied! Mighty big of you to just tolerate my
visiting this NG. I enjoy fishing/reading about fishing everywhere and
love it's universal appeal. Corporate America and others may want to
"invade" I just want to fish.
And while on the topic of fish and fishing I had an English friend whom
would say your opinion of all Americans is full of one eyed mullets.

concerned with UK sea angling issues. That how it gets its name. If there was
something of universal interest, such as info on global equipment (Penn reels
suck!), it would be interesting, or if one of us requested some help about a
fishing holiday in Florida it would be nice to get an e-mail, but this NG get
pestered by people wanting to sell us land in Texas, learn of rich fishing marks
so they can trawl it, charter boats in Carolina, etc, spam posting from the US
that are valueless and usually vaccuous. If you nosy into a NG that is not aimed
at you, don't get miffed if you read the odd comment you don't like. But I
welcome your readership. This is my opinion alone and not that of the NG
committee, of which I am disbarred from membership on account of being very
mischievous.

How do you expect anyone to answer such a request, if your don't welcome
them here, and are rude to them?

Again you lump me by virtue of my citizenship with every other American or
American company (Penn)
you have or had a problem with. As far as confirming your belief of
interference with everything or this NG, It seems as though all your post
confirms is; you have a very skewed and paranoid view of America as a whole
and a rather haughty, smug, I'm/were better than you attitude. I don't
think I have a right to anything except have the truth spoken concerning my
country and self.
I know abroad there are stereotypes of Americans and some of it may be
true, but don't judge me by them unless you know me. As far as your
comments concerning Spam and attempt to ruin your fishing industry, come
on! I get Spam w/ UK on the end all the time, Spam is a universal problem
and I don't eaves drop just waiting for the secret of where the best Cod
shoals are. Being a fisherman I am a conservationist and abhor wholesale,
wanton waste and depletion of fish stocks. Others, even non Americans may
hurt your fish stocks, not me. I don't like being judged by people who
don't have the facts. Jon.

Both UKRF.Sea and UKRF.Coarse have been enlivened by contributions made by
anglers posting from Holland, Germany, Canada, Australia and Scotland (etc.)

Postings have (mostly) been on topic. ie of interest to UK anglers, or
relevant to the UK fishing scene.

A necessary requisite for those considering posting here seems to be the
ability to take a 'dig', in good humour, and a readiness to put up with the
infantile banter, which most of us seem to enjoy.

As long as posters here feel they have a useful contribution to make, join in
the banter, and manage to keep on topic most (oh well, at least some) of the
time, IMO they are welcome, wherever they are posting from.

I would hate to see the situation develop whereby the ukrf groups were taken
over by (say) Americans talking about fishing in Florida to other Americans, or
Germans talking to Australians about their mutual experiences of fishing in
Iceland - and there lies the danger.

I got nothing against americans looking at other NG's as I do the same with
yr NG's just out of curiosity more than anything.

But I am ( along with many UK angers) very jealous of the very cheap prices
you have for fishing tackle especially when it comes to braid lines as over
here it is very expensive and left only to the rich to use.

Jon & Jeri? It`s OK, I know all the fishing stereotypes that exist!!!!!!!
I don`t believe that the Thai`s use dogmeat as bait either? Even if in the
case of them not catching, at least they`ll have something to put in a
sandwich!!!!!!!!!! We in the UK don`t have that many big game species!
But we do have a lot of worthwhile fishing around our shores! If you want
to catch a shark then a boat out of Devon or Cornwall will give you some
sport! Try the Scottish islands for a big turbot! Try winding up 300lbs of
dead meat!! Or maybe catch a 100lb conger eel?????? I`ve been fishing in
the states so I know what big fish feel like. I also know why some
inadequate individuals on this side of the pond feel so insecure! We just
don`t have the diversity of fishing locations that you guys do! But when
you come over here, you`ll be on a par with the local anglers! If you catch
a 20lb cod from a pier then you`ll have done well!!!! The same goes for
other species! Having been lucky enough to have fished many parts of the
states and caught bigger fish than I could even imagine in the UK! Please
don`t take that little shites comments as being on a par for all UK
anglers!!

Quite right, those who disagree with my thoughts on US infiltration!

Chot hides behind a non-name, is a scoundrel who is probably a lousy
angler who has never done nothing of any note, never fished anywhere
except the end of his pier, and lives in a one-room flat in Brixton with
nothing else to do but scribble on the Internet because nobody would
ever pay him to write or value his opinion.

(unlike that nice Clive Gammon bloke and that silent witness to this
news group Russ Symons who are millionaires from writing for Sea
Angler.) Oh, not another lawsuit threat on its way......

Can't we leaven the serious stuff of this NG with some humour?

At the end of the day (when most of us post) it is no more than gossip
down the pub on a Friday night, but without the accompanying beer.

Thanks, Leon.

I'll drive some humour into this NG one day.

Would somebody like to read my experiences of French sea anglers (they
make the Belgos seem like finalists on Mastermind) ?

I am villified from two continents, happy to add to the total, but note
that I never use profane or abusive language, unlike those who respond
to my occasional darts.

I retain my sense of fun as well as a dodgy knowledge of sea angling

Re Penn reels suck..........

If you have had a bad experience with any penn reels it is probably due to little or
no maintenance on your own part.
Speaking as an engineer, penn reels tend to be over engineered, as do a lot of
American products, but as a boat fishing reel there is little or nothing on the
market to beat them ( that is my own opinion ) .
I have owned various makes of reel and have had to repair or replace all of them,
except for my Penn's, (two 310 GTI'S, a 160 and a 25 GLS ) which with the minimum
maintenance, have performed faultlessly for over six years.
