Had the older ones since they were 4-6 months in 1999, the fillies were home
bred in 2002 and the Shet came 18 months ago.

Carrot chasing and poo picking!! (They are wicked with a wheelbarrow!!!)

Watching Tilly being born.

Finding out Tilly was Dysmature and nearly losing her and Lacey as a result

Not a habit, but they are bolshy, stubborn buggers sometimes.

My saddles, but only cos they are still new and clean and shiny and dont
smell of manky pone! :-)

At the Charity fields.

Out 24/7, rugged if required.

I love my horses because they are all related to my very first pony, Burley.
We found them whilst tracing his registration papers a few years back, and
the fillies sire was a relative too, so they are all my little family.

Too darn much, but I luv 'em!

A bit of grooming, scritchies and taking photographs mainly! He does
flatwork with Theresa and jumping and hacking with Sam, though Theresa's
given Sam a few flatwork lessons on him and they're doing a prelim test
together next weekend.

Depending on whether he's had the farrier out, £600 to £650.

I've know Harry since he was 4 and owned him since he was 8 - he's now 19.
Oliver and Spider we've had a year. Kezza's had Joe about 6 years. Toby
we've had 2 years.

> 9)What activities do you do with your horse?

Long distance riding, competitive endurance, long distance trails, general
hacking. That's as well as flatwork and schooling.

I wouldn't be able to pick one. There have been so many.

Losing my last mare.

None of them are particularly good at being stabled - that's why we've got
them.

Just watching them in the field. Or climbing to the top of a huge hill and
being able to see for miles from the back of my horse.

15, properly.

To keep the neds happy and healthy. If money was no object we'd like to live
somewhere in the middle of nowhere with the neds.

My new trailer.

2 on my own land, 4 on rented grazing down the road.

They all live out all year

They're so wise. And they make me laugh. You couldn't ask for better
companions.

I don't add it up very often cos it scares me.

Her full name is Longmead Legacy, and Lace came as a sort of shortened form.
It was also cos a friend once had a horse called Chantilly Lace, and I liked
the name (and that's also how Laceys foal got called Tilly)

One of the great moments was last Sunday when we put in a clear cross
country round during a training. Any time I feel the horse is with me
and even helps me is a great momen.

I have two:
Choccy: 16.1 11yr old hunter gelding, skewbald, owned 3 years.
Poppy: old laminitic Shetland mare, piebald, loaned 3 years from Wood
Green Animal Shelters.

Choccy and me do hacking, pub rides, holidays, short-distance endurance,
trec, gymkhanas, jumping, schooling and maybe one showing show a year.

Poppy does the showing show, gives godchildren ponyrides round field and
gets towed alongside Choccy on very short hacks.

Best moment. Ooh, loads. can't pick one. Just love spending time with
them, riding them, watching them in field.

Worst moment. Poppy being badly laminitic the first August we had her.

Worst habit. Poppy has taught Choccy not to respect electric fencing.

Favourite things. Bum scratches for Poppy, shoulder scratches for Choccy.

I first rode at 14, one or two lessons per year until 23 when could
afford weekly lessons.

Horsey goal is just to carry on enjoying what I've got.

Fave horsey item: my long-handled poop scooper which saved my back, and
my Performance Equestrian plastic/foam endurance stirrups which save my
legs/feet.

My horses live out all year in a field at home.

I love them because well I dunno, I've always wanted one ever since I
was about 7. Always been horsemad.

Average expenditure on 2 works out to 100 pounds for both.

Schooling, hacking, general poncing about...

Too many to mention really; first best was when my old horse galloped across
the field to me and my friend then veered off at the last moment to come
directly to me instead of saying hello to friend first;
>
> > 11)Worst moment?
Losing our foal; having my old mare put down even though we had know it was
coming for years (she had cancer); falling off Amelia and she ran off in
terror at having her rider fly past her shoulder;
>
> > 12)Worst habit?(horse not human!)
Amelia bites her reins when being out to be mounted.
Also when she is annoyed she 'humps' which is a sort of '4 feet in the air'
buck
>

LOVES being scratched. And cuddled. And eating dates. And having my husband
stick his fingers right down inside her ears to be scratched, yuk!

> >
> > 14)what age did you start riding?

Sort of started at 12, started again at 18, never stopped since...

At the moment to be able to ride Amelia out on her own on the roads; to get
it together enough to start galloping with her; and to get to Castle Combe
this summer in a group ride.

I think it might be my neckstrap... But I also love my Sprenger stirrups and
my Coolmaster boots. And my Libby's scawbrig bridle.

At a friend's farm 2 1/5 miles from our house

They live in the now, don't whine or worry, they just get on with life.
Today is a new day. And they are so beautiful.

According to the budget sheet for this year: £158.75 including insurance,
BHS membership, vets, livery, farrier, wormers etc

3 Years now. I bought him as a 2 3/4 year old colt.

As much as possible. Hacking, dressidging, jumping...

> 10)Best moment with your horse?

I have one of those every day :-] I love the feeling when you finally "click"
when trying to achieve things. Very proud on the competition dressage level
we've reached now as well. We're starting in a higher class than I have ever
been allowed to, and that's pretty nifty stuff.

> 11)Worst moment?
Suffering severe concussion while jumping, taking a nasty fall in which I
damaged my hip while hacking and taking a nasty fall with lots of blood coming
from everywhere while dressidging in the period of 3 months. I lost so much
trust I almost ended up selling him.

Also being called at 7 am to be told he had suffered a severe accident
overnight and finding the horse colicking, in shock and sweating from head to
toe, cripple and with a very smashed up leg. Thankfully he's 100% now.

> 12)Worst habit?(horse not human!)
At the moment... running out of his stable when the door is open :-] And he's
got a really nasty buck in him.

No idea. I'm an animal kind of person, I guess. Their emotions and reactions

Hacking on a village road, a much younger Murphy went bananas at a goat
behind the hedge. Whilst he was having a fit, rearing and spinning on the
road, the damned car drivers were still trying to squeeze by. When he calmed
down, the short way home meant going by the goat again, but he wasn't having
any of that so we had to go home the long way round with me in a state of
high anxiety all the way.

Owner's stable.

Out.

> 19)Why do you love horses?

Tactical deception is a human trait (chimps too, and maybe dolphins). Dogs
and horses may often behave in a manner that the handler doesn't want, but
they can't be duplicitous (though it might seem that they can at times, but
I contend that this is a result of what B.F. Skinner called Operant
Conditioning, and we habitually anthropomorphise their behaviour.)

> 20)How much roughly do you spend on your horse each month?

Nothing but the fuel to get to and from the stable, and replacement jods,
boots, half-chaps, etc.

Worst moment with Elska was trying out a very expensive saddle that
slipped and she took off with saddle on her side, I jumped off, fell

Worst other horse moments, losing two previous mares to colic and

On Elska, to Tölt, but also do everything you can do with a good all

Elska only comes in as she would be out on her own otherwise :-( she

Really not bothered. It's already got a home lined up (loan home, as it's
technically one of the charity ponies). It's going to the same lady who took
it's sister, who was last years foal, on loan.

There'll be no more though. She was got on her foal heat last year, but the
stallion she runs with was cut last week!

What are your plans for your new arrival?

Toastie's would say 'Mi casa, mi casa - now bloody get out!' (although the
last bit would be in Spanish too, I suspect...)

Bless......mind you, he was being very sweet yesterday when I was hedging in

Oh no - I'm replying to this cos I dont want to be lumped together with the

cured of this now but its blooming annoying).
Brumble - wanting to stand at the top of the lorry ramp, surveying the
location. People laugh a lot when your horse doesn;t want to come OFF the
lorry & he only seems to do it if we are running late.
Toastie - going into Spanish walk when he doesn;t understand something in a
schooling session or is getting a little tired. ever tried to get out of
spanish walk? Put your leg on to ride out of it & yes you get a bigger
Spanish walk...........gggggggrrrrrrrrr. spanish walk in shoulder in, in a
walk pirouette - you name it, Toast can do it........
Plank doesn;t have habits - i think he lacks imagination (g)

Hi, I think this is the right link to my girl

http://groups.msn.com/PaparorePleasureHorses/heartofgold.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=59

Her mum is a silver dapple and her dad a grey Arab.
There is also some pics on the site of another silver bay, one of the
latest foals.

Wow she is gorgeous! :-) Thanks for posting the piccies!

I love silver dapple, if I am ever rich enough to have another Icy it
may well be a silver dapple or bay.

Thanks

recently, getting some canter half-pass steps with Cherry, or some lovely
collected light balanced canter with Sophie 2 hrs into an Endurance Ride
> > 11)Worst moment?
Too many of them... usually when one of them gets sick as you feel so
helpless..............
12)Worst habit?(horse not human!)
Sly - very spooky about his backside & hates lorries & being caught;
Ben - inclined to be lazy, also barges stable door;
Sophie - spooking;
Cherry - fidgeting when tied up
13)Favourite thing?
Ben - resting
Sly - food, probably
Cherry - food & being worked!
Sophie - having a good gallop with her friends

14)what age did you start riding?
> 10
> >

To take Cherry as far as she can go in Dressage, and to keep Sophie sound
and healthy and enjoy lots of rides with her but above all to have fun with
them and enjoy them

It's difficult to single out a specific moment! Perhaps the first
clinic we did together in howling wind and driving rain, an he was
such a good boy. That or riding my own stallion for the first time at
Golega - that was pretty special

The worry when he had a mystery lameness and we didn't know what was
wrong.

The whole flirting/scritchie thing. The boy is one big erogenous zone

Mid twenties

To have the boys at home where they each run with a couple of mares

My Portuguese cavesson

And here's another one. I don't *mean* to lurk.....but despite being in
the Old Fart category, I'm very aware that most of you guys are FAR
more knowledgable than me. Still, you're never too old to learn, so
here we go.

1) How many horses do you own?

One horse, one outgrown evil Little Welsh Git pony who is on loan to
the local riding school until it's time for him to retire

2)What are their names?
Pringle and Ben

3)Breed?
Connemara X (possibly TB x, possibly donkey x) and Welsh B

4)Colour?
Dapple grey with dark points and light grey

5)Height?
15.1 & 13.1

6)Age?
7 & 16

7)Horses sex?
Geldings

8)how long have you owned them?

3 yrs & 7 years

9)What activities do you do with your horse?

I'm just the person who pays for everything and does all the crappy
jobs - 15yr old daughter is the rider. I bought him as a bringing-on
project for her when she was 12 to see if she was good enough to see it
through. They've both done me proud - it's been very slow, but he's now
a super all-rounder at PC/RC level. Still need to do a bit more work at
the SJ though - he doesn't have much respect for coloured poles.

10)Best moment with your horse?

Just finding him was a miracle - it took me 6 months to find the right
one. But then I'm picky.

11)Worst moment?
Getting a phone call from daughter to say he'd somehow managed to get a
big lump of wood impaled in his fetlock whilst out hacking on a muddy
bridle path. It was touch and go whether it had gone in to the joint,
which would have been curtains for him. But thanks to the people from
the yard where he was kept at the time and the local Horsepital, he
made a complete recovery and he doesn't even have a scar

12)Worst habit?(horse not human!)
Poking his nose in handbags/pockets

13)Favourite thing?
Varies - swedes at the moment

14)what age did you start riding?

I was a late starter at 9. Had a few years out of it to do the Mummy
thing, but made sure my daughter started at 4

15)Your horsey goal in life?

Oh - just to keep rumbling along. But I do have this awful urge for one
of those Spanish jobbies.

16)Favourite horsey item?
Fal rugs. And I have a lovely squishy Calcutt dressage saddle which
sadly doesn't fit Pringle any more, but I love it so much I'm hoping to
find a horse to fit it some time. No - ignore that.

17)Where do you keep you horse?

At the most wonderful DIY yard in Berkshire. Lovely place, lovely
people who run it.

18)Is your horse stabled or out?

In at night, out all day.

19)Why do you love horses?

Because......Oh there's no answer to that one.

20)How much roughly do you spend on your horse each month?

£150 livery inc turnout on schooldays plus feed, bedding, lessons etc.
Worth every penny.

We shouldn't let that put us old farts off -- you're FAR more knowledgeable
than I am.
