OT: Apache, PHP & SimpleXML
Just wondering if the FOA can give me hand ... I'm writing an application that will be getting an XML file from a third party. Am pretty sure that my class worked a while ago, as I was happily testing. However, I think that perhaps upgrading my Ubuntu server has thrown a spanner in the works ... it seems now that PHP is... more »

Braving the urban jungle!
For those who deny it's a jungle out there, either for POLITICAL or RELIGIOUS REASONS or both, is good to go out for a walk in the real world --machete in hand-- and check what kind of animals --predators-- you find out there... The Urban Road Is A Dangerous Place A feisty octogenarian is unrepentantly jaywalking in front of my car.... more »

Cyclist stops at red traffic light
I was in St. John's Wood, London last week visiting Lords Cricket ground for a guided tour. Not far from the ground in the direction of Maida Vale there is a set of traffic lights. They were on red. A car had just stopped in front of the red lights and behind him came a cyclist. I was amazed as the... more »

Fancy a bit of bullying?
You need to get over to uk.rec.cycling.moderated. There is someone there posting as "thirty-six"; you can say what you like to him and his posts. If you're a moderator there then you are actually encouraged to take part in the fun. You can tell him that what he says is bullshit - you can accuse him of... more »

Brakes in the rain
Whilst cycling it started chucking it down with rain and I was wet through after 5-10 minutes. I noticed when I braked it didn't seem to have any effect at all, which forced me to get off and push my bike. I was able to have some brake power if I held the brakes down for about 5 seconds which I guessed was getting the water off the brake pads.... more »

Table.
I never did get to find out where I was on the table of rejected posters in another place, but I think I might have noticed an anomaly. I posted an absolutely hilarious quip about MattB when I said "too many words..." It was sidesplittingly funny and worthy of Oscar Wilde at his best, and it was accepted! Showing that the moderators are men ( all... more »

Pedestrian injured
Yet another pedestrian injured by a cyclist. Oh I did not see the warning sign, the cyclist said, I wonder what ther comment would be if a motorist said that? I wasn;t going fast, well if not this just goes to prove that you don't have to be going fast to cause injuries. See [link] WSR... more »
