Anybody here used Spa Cycles? I ordered a wheel with an integrated hub
dynamo and a rear light two weeks ago and since the order confirmation
e-mail haven't heard anything yet? Is it worth me contacting them to find
out the status of my order or should I leave it another week?

I ordered an Edelux from them last year, having seen an advert saying
that they had them in stock. After twice being told that they'd have
them in stock by a certain date, then being let down, I cancelled the
order and got one elsewhere.

I think they're one of those retailers that likes you to think they have
stock so that you'll place the order, but they don't actually keep much
stock. It's probably worth chasing them up, but I wouldn't rely too
much on what they tell you, because they'll only be passing on what
their suppliers have told them, which might not be reliable.

(OTOH, I placed another order with them last week and received the goods
within a couple of days).

That's pretty much how I failed to get a hub dynamo/wheel/light last
year.

I bought my Chameleon from Spa Cycles, and quite a few other bits and
pieces, and I've never had a problem with them - however - having previously
had a few issues with another specialist LBS, I now always phone online
cycle shops before I order to check their stocks (with the exception of
Wiggle and Chain Reaction).

Give them a ring would be my advice, they've always been very friendly and
helpful to me when I've rung them.

An example - I ordered a Carradice saddle bag to complement my Brooks, and
the next day a package arrived. Opening it, I found a box of Exustar shoes.
I phoned them, they were really apologetic, they'd had a rush order for the
shoes, and must have made a mistake, they would put my bag in the post, and
when I returned them, they'd refund the postage, and give me some spare
tubes as compensation. I was parcelling the box up when I got a phone call
"Did you look in the box?" they asked... I hadn't, and they'd used a box
lying around the shop to protect my order. Much laughing ensued as /I/
profusely apologised.

All the best,

pOB

By a scary coincidence, last night I ordered some spokes from them and
so happened to be reading this article when they 'phoned me to say
that they were out of stock of the ones I'd ordered. They offered me
an alternative, which I've accepted. So provided that they deliver
what they've promised, so far my experience is positive.

'Phone them and ask for John; he seems quite helpful.

Peter.

I contacted them late this afternoon and they tell me they have sent it
earlier today, so hopefully should get it either tomorrow or Monday.

I've always found them reliable, and having been to the shop a number of
times they do actually carry quite a bit of stuff in stock (it looks
really tiny, but it goes back a longway behind the front). But yes, like
a lot of sites, you don't really know what they ahve and what they don't

Some years back, not having used them before (pre internet shopping) I
phoned them up to buy some stuff (Circa 50 IIRC). They posted the stuff
out to me that day and just said to put a cheque in the post

Must say I have similar brilliant service from them over the years,
always been very reliable and prompt.

That's reassuring to read. I have to say, my Edelux experience didn't
stop me from using them again. Although they were unable to supply the
goods, they did at least keep me informed (unlike some places), and it
was quite clear that they were being let down by their supplier.

The service at SPA Cylces is orrible guys!
Yhey told me goods vhere in stock than I had to wait more than 2 weeks
for a couple of tyres, mudguards, a cable :(

during those 2 weeks nobody kept me up to date I was wondering they
were going to clone my card too

Once I got the goods I noticed one cable was the wrong one, I wrote
them after 6 days nobody even replyed. (36£)

Will never buy from them again be aware they are also very very
unpolite and rude.
