Great!
Nothing like giving young children experience in traffic conditions and
traffic rules from an early age!
This is heaps better than the tired old mantra "look left, look right,
look left again" (or vice versa if driving on the left) and leave it at
that, because kids get driven everywhere ....

Only 15 child pedestrian/cyclist traffic deaths a year. The
Netherlands population is only 1/4 that of the UK, but there are so
many kids on bikes you might expect the casualties to be higher.

again that they do no good whatsoever - and can lead to risk compensation.

nederlands have better facilities and how there are far more of them, why
do so many die?
They have far more dead cyclists than we do yet only a quarter of the
people.

I wasn't actually talking about youngsters. I meant in total.

nederlands dead cyclists about 640, UK about 120 (per year)

I think that that figure must be incorrect. We all know about "safety in
numbers" - therefore if there are more cyclists in Holland than in UK - then it
will be much, much safer - and consequently fewer accidents and deaths.

Not a good signature, you might want to change that.

however, if you take the figures you give, it is still a very poor picture,
50 per cent more dead with only a quarter of the population, hardly a good
advert for safety in numbers.

Why?

It seems to me that fatal road traffic accidents in the UK involving
cyclists usually involve adult cyclists in some sort of misadventure.

Clearly, there are some child fatalities (and one would be one too
many), but they're not the majority.

Two hundred sounds a heck of a lot, given the population of NL. The
equivalent in the UK would be the better part of eight hundred, wouldn't it?

*Are* eight hundred cyclists (irrespective of age) killed annually in
the UK?
