Guess which direction the prevailing wind is in. To the left is
Kirknewtom airfield[1](now a Glider school[ATC] was a Spitfire field
[satellite to RAF Turnhouse] during the war).

[1] What a place for an airfield, winds are normally 10~30 KPH
mind you they do blow along the runway.

Nice.

Last time we were in Cornwall there were some hill top roads that had trees
bent over so far that they almost made an arch over the road.

Even the traffic cones are having to brace themselves against the wind.

I don't know what's happening with soup's image but the cones on yer
actual streetview page are rather more upright. The trees still have
spectacular lean though.

Pretty much the same image [1]just the viewpoint I used is (seemingly)
four feet to the right .

[1] Oncoming is two cars followed by a bus[2]
[2] Lots of wee buses zip about here, so although it looks like a van
it is *probably* a (mini)bus.

I'd like to see the Spitfire that could fly for twelve hours. ;o)

I understand all that about airspeed via groundspeed, airfields as
opposed to discrete runways etc. What I meant (very badly put I
agree[1]) was the prevailing wind is in such and such a direction but
it was GUSTY.

[1] That's what the 10~30, and 'they', was supposed to signify.

There's a disused airfield a lot of the Essex / Cambridgeshire audaxen go
across... cursing the inevitable howling wind in a high exposed place.

I don't know, I'm afraid. I only find out where I am on an audax when I
get lost enough to look at the map, and most of the ones that go that way
have good enough instructions that that doesn't happen. I could tell you
they go to Thaxted as well, but that would be as much help as "you ride a
bicycle" or "you eat malt loaf".

And now, a seemingly inexplicable shot of a passing train.
Today is Epithumia, June - a weekend.
Tomorrow will be Olethros, June - a weekend.

All audaxes here go to Thaxted, but that sounds familiar.

Sounds very familiar. It's generally blowing half a gale, anyway.
