I just have to share this e-mail that was sent the Bristol Cycling
Campaign mailing list this morning. It's so very representative of the
way South Gloucestershire caters for cyclist.
It refers to the Staple Hill Tunnel on the Bristol-Bath cycle path. I
haven't been along there recently, so I haven't seen the new lighting:

Subject: Fw: [Bristolcyclingcampaign] Staple Hill tunnel lighting
Hi Adam and fellow Tunnellers,
thes Bristol's one Tunnel is now darker than Bath's Two Tunnels!
We were coming through the Tunnel this morning (Friday) and South Glos
workmen were unloading kit from their lorry at the entrance. "Great" we
thought "they've come to fix the lights"!
Wrong! Apparently there is a problem with them which is not easy to fix.
So what were the workmen doing?
Yes, in true "you couldn't make it up" "only in South Glos" style - they
were making a hole to put a new pole up. On which they put a sign that
reads "Warning. The lights aren't working. It's dark in here". I.e.
stating the bleeding obvious...
How appropriate that Bristol spent welcome Cycling City money lighting
up their bit of the path up to the Tunnel entrance. Enter the Tunnel and
it's "Welcome to South Glos. Where cyclists are kept in the dark. Carrot
munching cyclists only :-)"
We've emailed them too. Any bets on how long it will take to fix them?

the Railway Path too dim? They've changed the lights recently, I assume
to more energy efficient ones that are also a whiter colour light. It
seems to have a spotlight effect now. The light doesn't spread at all,
meaning you ride through brighter (although still dim) lit spots then
into darkness in-between. Maybe it's just me and my eyes are adjusting
to the lighter spots and then unable to adjust to the darker patches
between?

me got in touch. Reported it a while ago and nothing has happened. I
think since reporting it that another one has actually stopped working.
