Having just discovered the world of mosaics and completed several small
projects, I am now obsessed and desperately seeking:

=95 shops/outlets in the Dorset and Hampshire areas
=95 swop ideas with similarly obsessed mosaic-fans
=95 find inspiration from artists who use mosaics as a means of expressio=
n

I have lots of ideas I want to try, including a present for my Mum's
50th - a table top divided into the four elements (earth, air, fire,
water) that my 3 sisters and I can design and then mosaic. Its an
ambitious project for an amateur and I'd be grateful for any wise hints
and tips.

In the meantime, great NG!

Amber.

Hi Amber,Very interesting.I've never attempted this kind of thing myself
but if you will permit me I could give you some thoughts on the matter.
We were recently up in Scotland on holiday and visited Inverewe gardens
in Wester Ross. Whilst there we had a meal in their wonderful
restaurant. On one wall there was a mosaic that to me at least was truly
magnificent. On closer investigation it appeared that it was created
simply fron ordinary wall tiles cut/broken to shape. After consulting the
boss,(wife),she suggested that broken crockery could also be
incorporated into the design. One day, maybe, I will try my hand at this
but as usual with us crafty types it's finding the time..........
As usual with projects involving sharp edges of tile/glass etc. good
gloves and safety glasses/goggles are a must!
Have fun with your project,
Cheers Alec
