Glass Painting

Has anyone had a go at glass painting? I was watching a
demonstration at the Harrogate show yesterday and I thought it
looked really interesting but know absolutely nothing at all
about it. Is there anyone out there who can help me?

Christmas and I liked it and now have quite a store of things to do. I
also was given a gallery glass kit from QVC for Xmas but have not had a
go yet. I have done quite a bit of painting on acetate for cards

paste and you're away!! - kits sometimes aren't very good quality - no need
to throw away glass jars anymore!!!

The window is right by my side of the bed, and, believe me, the world is not
ready to see me get up in the morning, so I "Carol Smithed" it.
I have only had a couple of goes at glass painting, but have been slowly
buying all the gear, and will get started properly when I have time!!

All you need apart from the paint, outliner and brush is a steady hand.
1. Find a nice easy pattern (the libarary will usually have books on
glass painting patterns)
2. A piece of glass (those clip frames are good to start with because
you can hang you finished work up - and they're flat)
3. Place the pattern under the glass and tape it down so that it doesn't
move.
4. Take the outliner (either tube or bottle) and outline the pattern
with it - wipe the tip on a tissue when you start again if you stop
because it will blob.
5. Leave to dry (I leave mine overnight)
6. Fill in the spaces with paint by pushing it around rather than
painting (this way you won't get brush strokes) - I do all of the one
colour first then clean the brush and move to another colour.
7. Leave to dry again - and you have your masterpiece!
Search Press have some good glass painting books with both techniques
and patterns in them.
I also use a company called Rainbow Glass (0161 790 3025 email
BEAR...@aol.com) who have a good range of blanks, patterns and paints
and who are very helpful.

Thanks for the reply and the tips they sound really useful especially
about the books from the library and the clip frames. It was Rainbow
Glass who I saw demonstrating at the show and they did seem helpful
although some of their prices were a little higher than others I saw
later on in the day. I am just wishing I bought some things now so
that I could get going.

Thanks for your reply. I liked the sound of the painting on acetate to
make cards as thats what I like doing best with cross stitching.
Do you stick it on the outside of the card when you have painted it?
Just wondering how you attached it really and does it look effective?
