I've been using Deka clear gutta for some years with no problems for my
wallhangings. Recently I've started making silk painted greetings cards
as well and want to use gold and silver outliner. I've been trying with
Deka. The whole thing is a nightmare!!!! Nothing but clogging, after
the first 10 mins max. I've tried all the following which have been
recommended:

buying new jars of outliner which should be fresh and non-clogging
watering down slightly
using .6 nib instead of .5
constantly poking the wire down the nib when it is clogged to try to
free gunge
cleaning the nib from the inside with a pin

and none of these work.

Perhaps there is another manufacturer of gold and silver gutta that I
could try, or maybe people have some tips for how to get round the
problem.

Not sure what to suggest Jane, but thought I'd just comment that I do
silk painting on and off and have had my Deka paints including gold and
silver gutta for years (like about 10!) and they still work okay.
Perhaps they've changed the recipe...

I've got them sorted out now, to some extent. I think my mistake was
expecting to get as fine a line with the gold and silver as with
transparent.. This is obviously not going to be possible. The gold one
now works if whenever it starts to clog I squirt a lot out at once.
(First time, I did this into the bin, later I realised that squirting it
back into the jar was probably better as some of it may not clog next
time!). The silver one was thicker and I needed to water it down, but
it still makes a thicker line than the gold. However, once I knew that
I could adapt the drawings accordingly.
