Hi neighbours,
I am writing from germany and thought that someone here might have some
hints and advices on sportclimbing in France in the upper or middle area.
The south is too hot in August and also I have heard a lot of stories of car
break-in.
We just would like too enjoy some nice climbing in natural surrounding and a
place to put our tent.

I am very greatful for all shared experience.

Hi Peter,

The very good website of the COSIROC has an english translation for each
page and is at
http:/www.ffme.fr/cosiroc

Gives you an idea where you can go.

I can't really help you as I normally go to the mountains in summer and
hardly ever crag. This said I'm sure that crags around Briancon (Ceuse), or
in the Vercors (Prelles, not overequiped though if that's what you are
after), or in Savoie next to the Lac d'Annecy
(members.aol.com/jcr74/escalade.htm. ) are very climbable in summer.
Re. the car break ins, there are some black spots (e.g. isolated car parks
in the Calanques) but it's not *that* bad.

While not strictly cragging either, Mont Pelvoux (Parc National des Ecrins)
near Briancon has lots of great bolted mountain routes. (Local guidebook,
good campsites (the one in Briancon itself has the best croissants in the
world :-) Guides office at bottom of Mont Pelvoux (more or less).

He trusted neither of them as far as he could spit, and he was a poor spitter, lacking both distance and control.
