There was an article in the Scotsman yesterday (Tuesday Edition).
1. Two ladies were bivving near the top of tower ridge, one rolled over in
her sleep and slipped in the ledge. Went 800 feet. Partner found her in
the morning and tried to make her comfortable. She was deceased however by
the time the rescue team got there. [lesson: ALWAYS stay tied to an
anchor! ]
2. A guy took a fall in Green Gully. 'tools slipped in soft snow' and
died.

Was someone in trouble in Glencoe on saturday?

Saw a blue navy sea king bleezing down the Glen around 6pm as I was
descending from
Corrie nam beith, where the ice was superb. Shame it's all liquid now.

I was coming down off B. Etive Mor at around that time. A leader fell on
one of the chimney pitches of North Buttress. From the sounds of the
shouts, the party above began assisting. Judging by the speed with which
the helicopter turned up, someone up there had a phone.

Later that evening I heard that the leader who fell was able to
communicate, so hopefully his/her injuries were not too severe.

Apparently someone fell off while soloing green gully(?) and then buried
himself in an avalanch.

Oh well at least it was better than being twated by a car

Rob.

(1) Saturday: Someone fell off the top of Green Gully (3 feet from the
top according to teletext) and landed about 700 ft lower. He was
evacuated to hospital but died later (Sunday a.m. I think). The papers
here concentrated on the unsuccessful efforts to get his donated heart
to someone in Sheffield inside the time window for successful
transplant. The bad weather frustrated all attempts, sadly.
(2) Sunday: Two women who had climbed something in the Tower Ridge area
were on their way down in horrendous weather (I was in the Fort at the
weekend and Sunday's weather was atrocious) and decided to bivvy. In the
morning one of them found the other had slid a few hundred feet into
rocks with fatal head injuries. The Herald reported that she was
'wrapped in orange survival clothing'. Sounds like an orange poly bag to
me and we all know how well they stick to snow - the main use for them
is for sledging!

The guy that fell in green gully at the weekend was soloing, I was climbing the
gully at the time and he passed us just below the third pitch. He reached the
cornice and his axes pulled through. He clipped my partner on the way down hate
to think what would have happened if I had started to lead that third pitch
rather than still being on the bellay.
Moral dont let anyone soloing in front of you

Or falling over coming out of a pub whilst stone cold sober and breaking
