Hi all, I have finally managed to get hold of a 1961 Beetle (UK). I
am just checking the authenticity of body panels and notice that the
'Semi W' engine lid appears to be like a 1966 (with only part of the
top 'W' showing above the light).

I think the lid should have more of the top part showing which the
popes nose light fixes too. Should it be like this:

Thanks

Hi Dave just checked the book and it seems that the engine lid stayed
virtually the same from 57 to 66 although the popes nose was dropped in
63 and the 't' handle became a push button in 64 so anything with semi
'w' ,popes nose and 't' handle would be correct for your car. Pre 57 had
a proper 'w' pressing and post 66 had no 'w' at all. hope this helps.

Also 'the book' is Volkswagen beetle and derivatives by Hans O.Neubauer
published by Beaulieu books ISBN 0901564 419 (1979)
