Can anyone tell me if it's possible to spray paint a entire front bumper
using cans or is it a job best left to the professionals?
If it is possible is there a special sort of primer I need to use with it
being plastic and flexible?
Thanks.

Well....it's "possible", but you'd have to be fairly uncritical to be
happy with the results.

Having 'had-a-go' with DIY spray painting I can say 'don't bother' !
(1) I'm sure that there are many people who can get a perfect finish
using spray cans, but I'm not one of them! I'm guessing that if this
your first time.

You may also find that the can comes out a different shade to the rest
of your a car, wheras a good bodyshop will mix paint to match the
colour.

(1) First car, red Austin Metro - sprayed the lower front sill (?
below the bumber red) Couldn't afford to get it done properly, not
that is was worth doing properly either!

You can get one off aerosols filled with the correct paint from a motor
factor that does paint, and these are rather better value than shop bought
cans - although still an expensive way to use paint. If you start with a
good surface, and put on plenty of coats so there is a reasonable
thickness, it can be polished up afterwards to a very good finish. But
whether it's worth it would depend on the price of getting it done
professionally.

To get an instant good finish you need to time application of the coats
exactly right - the previous coat must be dry enough that new paint
application doesn't run and wet enough that it coalesces. Not easy on a
large area. Failing that, you can always polish to a shine with patience
(or a power polisher).

I did the bottom half of a bumper once, on an Uno. It's not something I
would do again but it worked fine, and lasted except for one tiny spot that
fell off because it obviously hadn't been prepared properly. I used an
aerosol of plastic primer from a motor accessory shop, of which I still
have half left (but I bet it doesn't work any more!); cleaned and sanded
the bumper, applied that then put the paint on.

You could have just done it with stone-chip and sprayed that.
