Has anyone had any experience in coach painting cars. I am thinking of
hand painting my mk1 escort. Is the anywhere that will mix the paint to
the shade you want.

You used to be able to get brush on cellulose to match the paint colour you
wanted at any auto refinishers shop. Check out yellow pages.

I've painted a few of my earlier cars by hand. These were 5 quid old bangers
though, back in the 60's and they were much improved as a result of my
efforts. To be honest though, the results were pretty crap compared to a
proper spray job.

I did a few by hand too (fnarr!), years back. If one bought "proper"
coach enamel, brushed it very carefully, flatted with very fine (1200)
wet'n'dry, CAREFULLY!, and then compounded, the results weren't that
bad, actually. It is labour-intensive...

Cheers, Laurie.,

We used to use rollers!!! It sounds crazy but you can get a nice smooth finish.

Anybody ever try Paint Pads? They do give a real glassy finish with gloss
on wood. You need to add 50% white spirit (to household paint of course)
