You left out his sig - I've put it back.

There seems to be an extra '1' in it.

Merely because he got the sigsep right. Although, to be fair, that's
probably more down to the web interface to usenet he seems to be using. I
must see about knocking together some filters to weed those fuckwitfarms

I have seen people reminded that this is a classic car group, who were
subsequently given their answer because someone else posted it a few
days later.

But based on your last reply, you will get absolutely zilch.

Serves you right.

Well forgive me for actually having a sense of humour, but I was being
helpful in a roundabout sort of way. The folks in here are *classic* car
fans and their knowledge is really based around much older cars than
yours. You really will find people better placed to help you in
uk.rec.cars.maintenance. Just to help you out a little more I've
cross-posted your message to there, though cross-posting is a bit
naughty anyway.

Are you really so cretinous as to not be able to spot the difference
between spam and real posts?

Clearly, yes, since you can't tell the difference between a heap of shite
like a Rover 620 and a classic.

Now, please, fuck off before you make yourself look like an even bigger
fool.

I think your correct in spam, these thing are just about fool proof and
the plugs and wiring will not allow simple mistakes like crossing wires
even if it comes out of a harness. the multi plugs are differing sizes
or different colours etc.

Unlike classics where each wire has the same individual connection and
just a bunch of wires.

Sadly spam is as much a problem on usenet as it is in email. Those of us
that use it regularly use a dedicated newsreader (you can do it in
Outlook Express) rather than a web interface, the advantage being that
you can set filters for all the crap - I hardly ever see a spam message
in this group now.

Quite pretty cars, considering the Honda input. They do seem to rust,
though, and most of the ones I see now are sheds-in-exelcis. I dare
say in 20-odd years the (few!) survivors might be making the SoC->
near-classic transition, a bit like the Cortina or Princess.

On a different, and equally probably-not-classic sense, I saw a
Renault 14 today. Can't remember when I last saw one. With its
rarity, Pininfarina-inspired (or was it 'farina penned it?) banana-body
and combination of mechanical features (the Douvrin donk and sump-gargling
transmission, but the wheelbase is still different on the two sides as
it's got the R16-like back suspension) - plus very decent comfort and
undoubted distinctiveness - it /ought/ be be getting classic status. But
somehow, I just don't see it.

Yesbut - the R30 almost certainly /is/ a classic. They were very tasty
when new, and rarity and distinctiveness must help the transition to
classic status. In your position I'd certainly be going to look at it ASAP

Like I said. OK, I was tongue in cheek with my first post, but I have
also tried patiently to explain that the expertise of this group doesn't
generally cover the answer to the original question, pointed in the
direction of one that does, and even taken the trouble to cross-post the
message over there!

I don't know the answer, but I couldn't have done much more to help.

No. Good for you. Enjoy it. The 30 is a forgotton classic (what was it

Had a good crawl around it earlier today. Been stored in a dry garage
for 18 years, 68k miles, had just been resprayed when it was parked up
and the owner just hasn't had the time to put it back together. Of
course, the paint now needs re-doing in places (It's a 27 year old
Renault) but it's solid and at the exact right stage to repaint before
putting it on the road. The original shockers look to be perfect on it
(clean, dry, and no rust on the shafts) the CV gaiters look perfect with
no signs of cracks, he'd just re-done all the brakes on it when it was
parked up - fluid still looks clean but will be changed (but the brakes
worked fine when it was pulled out of the garage at least), engine
hasn't got any nasty stains, interior is timewarp from what I can see.
Alloys need refurbing and a new set of TRX (ARRGH at the expense..) and
the exhaust system looks to be completely shot - the backbox is more
like a skeleton, I've never seen one so bad.

Needs one plate where the rear mudflap attaches to the bootfloor but
that looks like it's it.

Try replacing a headlight on one and you may revise your opinion. I
helped a friend break one up for spares last year. We reckoned the
headlights might sell on eBay so tried to remove them. 2 hours later it
had become a challenge that we were determined to win, but still ended
up giving up. By then, we'd sawn the front bumper off and dismantled
most of the front of the car in ways that could never be repaired, but
were still defeated by two inaccessible bolts.
The only way I could see that anyone could ever replace one, would be to
cut off the lower fastening lugs and leave the replacement unit fixed
only at the top.
