My first turtle dove

Just spotted in a friends garden in Holbeach Links. Only noticed it
apart from the normal collared doves we have as it is much smaller and
the wing markings actually do look like a turtle markings. Crazy but
great to see.

I got excited by seeing goldcrests in my conifers. What a noise they make!
I was suggested on the group a while ago that Germans also shoot migrating
birds but when I was there, I saw no sign of it, quite the reverse. I was
right out in the wilds - miles to the nearest shop - so if they did it, I'd
have seen it.
The Germans I met seem to love birds as much as we do. They do sometimes
shoot wild boar if they won't leave their crops alone, though.
I wanted to see wild boar when I was in Germany so we sat out by a pond in
the forest in the evening and watched bats skimming the water. It was so
peaceful.
Then we heard crashing in the undergrowth as the boar arrived. I changed my
mind I said "let's go home now." so we did.
I'd hoped to be braver than that.
What a wimp!!

Oh! It seems my post gives the impression it's my pic. Not so. The
website that posted the pic is a blog from my old stamping ground of
Christchurch Harbour in Dorset and the photographer, Alan Hayden is an
old mate. Needless to say I'm a daily visitor to that site, being a
sucker for nostalgia.

It's actually a rough track that runs across the birding area covered
by CHOG. Lots of gorse bushes with ...Linnets! (oh, the odd Dartford
Warbler and Stonechat, too)
