Had a letter recently offering me RSGB membership and a present if I join
up!!

Are they serious? I would never join a society that IMO are responsible for
the decline of standards on Amateur Radio in recent years.

Can I stop them from sending me these offers in the future?

Has anyone else in here had this offer through their door?

Last week, the RSGB sent me letter offering to kick me out if I hadn't
paid my overdue annual sub by the end of December! For some reason, my
long-standing direct debit had not been taken this year. Fortunately, a
quick email sorted things out - but it was a close shave. After 50 years
of loyal membership, I might have found myself cast out into the
formless void that is life without the RSGB.

How would you maintain standards whilst also replacing those people who
are leaving the hobby by being too far beyond three score and ten? As
the numbers drop, there will be more demands to commercialise the
amateur bands. Nearly all the members in my local radio club are retired.

You need to do that it in a UK where fewer and fewer people understand
technology in detail, or even have technology construction skills, as
you don't need them to be a city technology analyst, or mobile phone
company executive, or to buy in, rebrand, and market shipments of
equipment from China.

Even amongst those interested in technology, the internet provides
competition to amateur radio.

And Paul are you a member of any radio society say the IRTS and if not
is it for any idealogical reason?

Just had an email from the ARRL offering me 3 years membership for $150
with a free copy of the excellent ARRL antenna handbook and a 2010
calender thrown in free. Cheaper than the Royal Society of Girls
Blouses....
