Please can anyone help?

I own a Yaesu FT23R 2M transiever which I used after gaining my Amateur
Radio license. Following my interest in Offshore sailing I would like to
extend the working range from 144-146 to 144 to 162. Can it be done, and if
so how.

Regards Chris

It can't legally be done - marine radio has to be suitably type-
approved.

It can, but sadly, it is not legal. All Marine Band equipment has to be
Type Approved, and no rig that can also operate in the amateur bands
can be so approved.

Bummer, innit? I hold a VHF Marine license also, and the type
approval rules are utter bilge. As it were.

Yep - Frank's right - however, I am sure that a person using a modified
amateur tranceiver on a licenced vessel for *receive* only would not be
breaking the *spirit* of the law.
