Wouxun KG699 s-meter fault ?

Superb handhld but the s meter always reads half scale on zero signal.
Does anyone know of a fix ?
Do other Wouxun rigs or models have the same problem ?
I see there's a Yahoo group for Wouxun rigs, but since
you need memebership just to view the messsage archive
I can't be arsed to join and I'm always suspicious when groups
are like this.

I have a 2m/70cm KG-UVD1P. When you disable the squelch (so it is
always busy), this unit shows the same problem.

there's a signal there, it's almost all-or-nothing really.

It doesn't need to be.
Just so long as it has sufficienct dynamic range to enable a
user to peak up the signal when trying to use a repeater.
Thanks to all the other posters comments. I think I'll hold back
on any other purchases for the time being.
But fo a 4m rig, I still recomend them.

One wonders what Brian might advocate to keep 'idiots and disruptive
elements' off the Amateur bands, keeping in mind it now really easy to
get a licence involving no-fail assessments. A 12 wpm CW test,
perhaps?

I can confirm that councils round here have predilection to using
occupational therapy services for all sorts of things. Its usually sod
all to do with the employees mental condition or a way of 'working his
ticket'.

I have no problem with moderating incoming posts.
But to have a Yahoo group that restricts the *viewing*
of messages to approved members only is plain daft.
No other group does such things,either on Yahoo, qrz or eham.

to "refill".
Years back I had a KP202 but it got lost. Something about the KP202 I always
liked.
Finally, there is a PF70 and some PF1 somewhere about, converted years back
and since "phased out" of use.

2200GX and a 2300.
2200GX is kept as it was the first "rice box" I ever bought, the 2300 is
used as part of my training kit for FL training.

Being in a written form, it's libel, not slander.
In similar circumstances, I would start by making a formal complaint
to the individual's ISP. They may want to play safe and throw him
off, pending the outcome of legal proceedings.

Wouxun KG-UVD1P you want then.
They've finally got the DTMF tones set to a reasonable length, they're
CE 'approved' and there's a software utility that lets you limit them
to just the amateur bands and nowhere else if you so desire.

can use for training and I'm building up a stock of "loaners", esp. for use
with the school radio club. Of the latter, some I've bought (eg the 32E)
but most have been kindly donated by local amateurs.
