Manifesto of
Damian John Paul Brown
Independent Candidate
For Blackburn Constituency
www.feelfree.org.uk
I have just watched an episode of Monarchy on television. The series
so far has been very informative and interesting, giving an insight
into the Kings and Queens of England. Tonight I gained a feeling of
passion about the History as the well-spoken presenter told us about
the involvement of the House of Lancaster. Henry Bolingbroke claimed
the Crown to become Henry IV from the House of Lancaster. I remember
studying Henry IV Part 1 for English Literature at O level, and I
recognised the surname of Bolingbroke. We did not study the History
at the time, but Henry V and Henry VI succeeded Henry Bolingbroke's
line before it was taken away from the House of Lancaster by the House
of York.
I very much respect our current Queen as our Monarch and Head of the
Church of England. I am a practising Catholic and I attend the Church
of England Cathedral in Blackburn Town Centre sometimes for Morning
and Evening Prayer as well as attending a Catholic Church at the
weekend. Queen Elizabeth II represents our Great Country as best she
can in the circumstances of the current world order.
I will be buying the book and DVD of the Monarchy Series, so that I
get as full a picture as possible of our History. I am particularly
interested in how Henry VIII started the Church of England, which was
described a couple of weeks ago, when I only just started watching the
series. The Queen is currently the Duchy of Lancaster, and of course
the Army in these parts is called the Queen's Lancashire Regiment. I
enquired about joining the Army and I was told I was too old at 36. I
have always been glad of my Lancashire roots.
In the past, the Monarchy would also be in charge of the Government of
England, whereas now, their power has been devolved and we only see
our Queen in any political stature with the Queen's Speech, that is
given to her by the People's Government currently in power.
One of the most powerful people to be in power at the moment is Jack
Straw, MP for Blackburn, and Foreign Secretary. This last weekend,
Jack Straw was giving a question/answer session in Blackburn Town
Centre and when he had finished, I walked up to him and told him that
I will be standing against him as an Independent in the next General
Election. He immediately shook my hand and asked my name. I was a
bit surprised by his reaction, but I suppose I had kind of caught him
by surprise. I say now that I was one of those who voted Jack Straw
in when Labour first got into current Government and I feel that he
did us proud as Home Secretary. I must also state here, that he has
not done a good job as Foreign Secretary for actions that are only too
evident and for some actions that he has not undertaken and played a
proper role in.
I would stand in the General Election anyway, but I particularly feel
like standing to be able to represent the people of my hometown in
preparation for the days that we have a North West Assembly and we can
do something about the North/South Divide in this country.
This is a preliminary Manifesto, as I have policies of my own, but I
would like to know the opinion of any future constituents so that I
may form policy that is relevant to the cross population and diversity
of our Community.
Please read on, and if you feel that I am worthy of your vote, then
please vote for me at the next General Election.
Thank You!!!
Employment Policy
I am an Internet Consultant, having been in the business for nearly 10
years, ever since it started to become popular. I will be taking on
employees in the New Year (2005) under the following simple policy.
Hours of Work
Monday to Thursday
6 hours per day = 24 hours per week
10 minute break per hour
Rate of Pay
£5 per hour whilst training
£7.50 per hour plus monthly bonus once trained
Not all businesses can validly pay this rate at the moment, but with
the help of the Internet and
e-commerce, Blackburn can become a hive of jobs and careers. I have
visited the Industrial Estates of Blackburn and I can see the scope
for job creation in certain industries that can take good advantage of
the global economy. This Manifesto will be delivered to the
businesses of Blackburn and I will train people in Information
Technology that is relevant to Industry and Commerce.
As an MP, I will work closely with the Council and develop services
that are already on offer. I see many workers becoming their own
bosses and ‘cottage-industries' being set up in the areas of town that
do not already have an affluent economy. Many businessmen will tell
you that they are not averse to the debt situation, and there is a
kind of false economy in running a business that is in debt.
Anyone who wants a job can be found one, or you can be trained in ways
to earn a living using the skills and talents that you already have.
Jobseekers Allowance
I believe you should be able to choose the number of hours you would
like to work per week, and that all people of working age should
receive a benefit whether they are working or not. If you choose to
work, then your benefit will be reduced according to how much you
earn, but no-one should be forced into poverty. I will introduce
anyone with debt problems to a very good debt counselling service that
is active locally.
In this day and age, there is no need for such a wide gap between rich
and poor, and as this Manifesto is titled, we will find Peace with
Justice for the poor.
Education Policy
There is no doubt that we are now in the Computer Age. I am lucky
that I have a lot of knowledge of Computers and I have been educated
in Computer Programming, and also I am very much self-taught. Many of
the older generation are a little wary of Computers, but with
understanding, Computers are very simple machines and can increase
efficiency of work to the good.
Our Education does not stop when we leave School, College or
University, but we continue to learn more life skills as we grow older
and mature and we find this education is free, as all education should
be. If you would like to pay for your children's education, then go
ahead, but normal schools will become more tuned to the needs of a
truly good economy.
I will find out more about what is being taught in local schools and I
will consult with parents, teachers and pupils to see if they feel
they are stepping out in the right direction.
Economic Policy
At the time of writing, the Country as a whole is £1,000 Billion in
debt for us the consumers. If people continue to get into debt at the
same rate, it could be disastrous. I wouldn't like to take over as MP
with a constituency full of Bankrupts. People need to stop spending
more than they can afford and take a hold of their finances and
budgeting. That is just a general safety warning to the population in
general.
Tax
Income tax seems to be the bane of every working person.
I propose a lower tax rate than we currently have by being more
efficient in using the taxes that we collect. You do not need to be a
financial wizard to work out a budget and apportion money to the right
areas. I do not look to the country as a whole, but as if there will
be a North West Assembly where we can set our own tax rates. Maybe
you can see why I support a North West Assembly. My goal is to have a
majority of members in a North West Assembly so that we can prove
things on a smaller scale before taking it countrywide, if we see that
as the right path.
I would like to see a rate of 20% of earnings initially for income
tax. This would be a flat rate for all earners, as the people who do
earn more, will be paying more tax as a percentage. I envisage that
with the right policies and education, the gap between rich and poor
will become less in the future. I believe in a multicultural equally
wealthy community in a Peaceful World.
Health Policy
I very much believe in the NHS and Free Healthcare. I have received
treatment under the NHS and I am very pleased with it. There is room
for improvement, but any problems can be solved by us forming a North
West Assembly so that we can fix the NHS locally on a smaller scale
than nation-wide.
I will consult with Hospital Managers and Doctors in the Local
Hospitals and find out what is missing and how we can improve the
situation as a whole. Also, the local surgery is very important to a
community, as it is the first port of call when you become ill, and I
have already spoken to my GP about his workload and the kinds of
complaints he treats.
Everyone knows what it is like to be unhealthy for a while and how it
can turn your life upside down for a few days, and your health is the
most important part of your life. Ways of staying healthy should be
more widely taught in schools and we should get everyone exercising
more, even if it is just a brisk walk to the health food shop!
Conclusion
I hope this preliminary Manifesto has given you some hope for the
future. I can't do all that is mentioned by myself, but I will do as
much as possible for you before the General Election.
You may be tied to a certain political party that you feel has no
chance of ousting the current MP for Blackburn, and you may feel there
is just cause to do so. You may not be happy with your last vote. I
say to you all, "Feel Free to Vote for Me" and let us combine our vote
and set an example for the rest of the Country and World to follow.
If, like me, you feel we should have a North West Assembly, then I
say,
"North West is Best – Vote YES!"

my campaign is going, then feel free to phone me on 0788 433 1623 or

You expect someone to live on £120 p/w !

£180 once 'trained', Well they could probably pay the rent and council
tax but how are they gonna eat ?
> Not all businesses can validly pay this rate at the moment,
No many pay less than this, but at least they let you work 80 hours a
week so you can feed the kids.

What !? why would someone want benefit if they are working ?
Why not just pay them properly in the first place and stop the money
from having to go around a beaurocratic tax/benefit circle.

Why not tune schools to the needs of a truly good education ?

so, your economic poolicy is:
I will tell people not to get into debt.

So you will cut down our tax burden by adding another hugely expensive
layer of government.

So your health policy is to rename the NHS to NWHS.

No its not, well it might be if you could get an appointment before your
illness either goes away on its own, or you die.

Why ? Schools are for education. Health is for parents/doctors.
and we should get everyone exercising

Would a quick drive over to the chippy be a suitable alternative ?
