Before Kristallnacht, synagogues in Germany were sporadically
demolished on pretexts such as "traffic obstruction" or "spoiling the
medieval character of the neighbourhood".

Some Jewish Germans kidded themselves for THE FIRST FIVE YEARS of Nazi
rule that things would all blow over.

And what goes around, comes around -- only in mirror image.

From the Guardian article:
"Police chiefs warned today that closing down mosques suspected of
encouraging extremism could be counter-productive, despite proposed
new powers allowing them to do so.
The Association of Chief Police Officers said it would prefer to
investigate claims of extremism rather than shut down the mosque
and risk driving fanatics underground."

I could have sworn that when Blair introduced these new powers he
said "the police asked for them". Now it appears the police didn't
and are not happy about using them.

Fascism is introduced step-by-step to avoid frightening the sheep.

Perhaps he confused MI5/6 with the police.

Possibly but he ought to know that the police have lead role in law
enforcement.

Muslim group attacks mosque plan

It would be easier for Sir Iqbal to make his case if the entire
community rose up and cast out those few, instead of allowing those few
to operate and recruit freely until stopped by British authorities.
>From the BBC, with thanks to JE:

Government plans that could see the closure of mosques suspected of
inciting extremism have been attacked by Muslim leaders.
Sir Iqbal Sacranie said the move would "criminalise an entire community
for the criminality carried out by a few"....

But he added loyalty to the UK was not incompatible with the Muslim
faith....

Sir Iqbal described the government proposals designed to tackle
terrorism the "single most dangerous piece of legislation".

Under the plans, police could seek a court order for the temporary
closure of a place of worship if extremist behaviour or terrorist
activity was believed to be taking place.

Mosques were not specifically singled out in the proposal but most
people would see the proposal as referring to mosques and trustees of
mosques, the MCB has said....

The MCB's Sher Khan said the gathering at the Excel centre fulfilled a
"very important need to clarify to the wider community that British
Muslims are part and parcel of the wider community".

Who is going to clarify that to the Muslim community, and when?

Righto. All you have to do is jump aboard the Labour bandwagon and believe
that Muslim "extremists" are actively recruiting terrorists. Forget the
idea of proof.

Lord Haw Haw couldn't have played it better.

I don't think that Tony Blair confuses anything, save for his notion that
he can walk on water and the endless gullability of the British people.

How so? Looks like it's criminalising the guilty for their own actions.

Why is any action against extremists (who, we are told, are a very small
majority, etc etc) interpreted as an attack against all islam?
