It is rumoured that David Miliband is to resign his seat.

The 2010 election in South Shields was:

Richard Elvin has been chosen for UKIP, having finished second in Middlesbrough last year.

Has he actually resigned yet?

If he had, perhaps some public spirited MP could have talked out the

The Guardian reckons that he will vacate the seat on Monday (15th), and the
by-election will be on 2nd May.

Yeah, saw that on Twitter. I knew Parliamentary timetables were shorter than
for local elections but not that much! Postal vote and register applications
have to be in by Wednesday. Or are those deadlines later for Parliamentary
elections too?
