Note: In Britain and its countries we have NO direct democracy (DD)
either (although we have herds of fat cats). David Cameron promised to
introduce DD (before his party came to power). Here's what he said:

Even the local mutants and dragons could manage to join in; direct
democracy is "learning by doing". Take the citizens' law-proposal.
Collecting the needed endorsements (say 1 or 2 percent of electorate)
gets reported in the media. Then the proposal goes tp parliament for
debate and vote: there is much press coverage, tv debates about the
proposal etc.. Then a ballot (referendum) date is set and again there is
a huge amount of information and debate. All of this takes many months
or even a few years. Yer can't miss it!
