Predators starve as humans plunder oceans

Harvard biologist E.O. Wilson described the human race as, "The most
devastating meteorite to hit the planet."

Humanity's arrogance cannot be quenched.

In a compelling story written by UK's, The Independent, Geoffrey Leans
said, "Marine giants go hungry as fleets scoop up their prey for our fish
suppers. April 19, 2009.
http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/nature/predators-starve-as-we-plunder-oceans-1671066.html

For the past 20 years, as reported by Look Magazine in 1991 and Mother
Jones News in 2008, human beings kill 100 million sharks every year,
primarily for their fins, and toss their lingering carcasses back into the
oceans. Humans slaughter millions of seals, whales, dolphins and other
mammals in drift nets cut away from ships to continue killing on the ocean
floor.

But now, according to Leans, "Starving sea life - from whales to puffins,
tuna to seals - is being found all over the world's oceans, as the food on
which it depends is being fished out, startling new evidence shows. And
much of the depletion, ironically, is caused by raising captive fish - for
the table.

"New figures from the Food and Agriculture Organization show that the
small fish on which birds and marine mammals feed have become the
main target of fishing fleets since stocks of bigger fish have become
exhausted. Four times as much of these "prey fish" are now brought to
shore as half a century ago, and seven of the world's largest 10 fisheries
now go after them."
>
"More than four-fifths of this catch does not go directly to feed people,
but is ground up into fish oil and fish meal and increasingly used to raise
carnivorous species such as salmon in fish farms," Leans said. "A
captive fish needs up to one pound of food to put on a single pound in
weight. And, as a result, there is less and less left for its natural predators."

"We have caught most of the big fish and are now going after their food,"
says Margot Stiles, a marine scientist for Oceana, the leading international
sea protection pressure group."
>>
"A new report by the group, Hungry Oceans, describes how "scrawny
predators - dolphins, sea bass and even whales - have turned up on
coastlines all over the world," adding that scientists are finding them and
seabirds "emaciated from lack of food, vulnerable to disease and without
enough energy to reproduce," said Leans.

>Not mentioned in the report, humans dump billions of plastic containers
into the oceans. One thousand miles off San Francisco, a three million
ton floating patch of plastic, called, "The Great Pacific Garbage Patch"
swirls around in an area twice the size of Texas. Those containers,
including, Styrofoam, stick in the stomachs of birds, whales, turtles,
dolphins and other marine life - to kill by the millions. The problem
remains: the death of those marine animals assures that the plastics will
be recycled for more death and destruction of life in endless cycles.

>>Additionally, sea life suffers from toxic dead zones at the mouths of
major rivers from India, U.S., China, Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Europe.
Humanity spits its thousands of chemicals into those rivers in the form of
insecticides, herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers. Those dead zones range
from 10,000 square miles at the mouth of the Mississippi to 27,000 square
miles in the North Sea. Very few vertebrates can live in those toxic waters.
Our oceans have become the final toilet for human waste.

Not mentioned in the report, humans discard billions upon billions of
pieces of glass, metal, chemical and plastic waste that rolls around the
ocean floor like a child's messy playroom. In this case, it destroys
habitat for all marine creatures.

With another added three billion humans in the next 41 years, does any
marine life or land life on earth stand a chance of surviving the 21st century?

A small leap from arrogantly being part of the problem, to proudly being
part of the solution, don't you think?

Not proper format.
To remind you the regression you speak of is likely linear, so the
regression equation would appear not at all unlike the equation of a
line. Try again.

'Excerpts transcribed from the
"Nutrition For Optimum Health"
VIDEO
with Michael Klaper, MD
...
Dr. Michael Klaper:
Medicine has been fascinating to me because it constantly teaches me something
if I'm open to it. Back in the 1850's the German philosopher, Goethe said, "what
you know about you see" once you know about something you start seeing it
everywhere and this is certainly true about medicine and it is certainly true when
it comes to nutrition and I want to increase your viewing of things that you may
know about so you start seeing things differently, especially when it comes time
to order your next meal in a restaurant or when you are pushing your cart down
the supermarket isles trying to decide what to bring home for dinner.

My nutritional awakening began when I was on the cardiovascular anesthesia
service, and that's the service that deals with people's hearts and blood vessels.
And one evening I was making rounds to see a patient who was scheduled for
a four-vessel coronary by-pass several days hence and the man had been out
on a day-pass with his family before surgery, quite a common practice. He had
returned to the hospital rather late and the nurse notified me that there were
several blood tests that were missing off his chart that we needed to repeat and
so she asked if I would draw blood on the man, which I happily did. And I
drew some of his blood into a glass tube and I brought it to the nurse's station
and I let it sit there while I got busy with some work in the ward and an hour
and a half latter I went back to the nurse's station to take the blood tube down
to the laboratory, and what I saw in the blood tube gave me a rude awakening.

When you draw blood into a glass tube and allow it to sit there for a couple
of hours, it separates out into two parts.

[ ]

Here is normal blood on the left and you see the red clot on the bottom and
the clear liquid serum has risen up to the top. The serum should be transparent,
you should be able to see through normal serum. However, the blood in my
patient's tube looked very different. The serum that was floating on top of his
clot was thick and greasy white, it looked like ivory glue when I shook the
tube, the serum stuck to the sides of the tube. I went back into the room.
I said, "Sir, before you came back to the hospital tonight, did you stop off
anywhere from dinner?" He said, "Yes" I said, "Where?" and he said he had
stopped at his local gourmet restaurant and he had his usual fare, and I said,
"What did you have?"

"Well I had a double-bacon steerburger' with extra cheese and a milkshake,"
a common offering at such institutions. And at that point when he said that,
I realized what I was looking at in his blood tube. What was floating on top
of his blood tube was all the beef-fat in the burger, it was all the butterfat in
the cheese, it was the butterfat in the ice-cream, it was the egg yoke fat that
was in the mayonnaise that was slathered on the bun. All the fat that this man
had eaten had oozed out into his bloodstream and turned his blood fatty.
This is a well known phenomenon, it is called lipima and it happens every
time you eat a fatty meal, a wave of fat goes through your bloodstream.
Not everybody shows it this optically densely, but everyone has a wave of
fat going through their bloodstream after a fatty meal, how can it be any
other way?

There's an old saying, "out of sight, out of mind" Might be out of sight,
might be out of your mind, it's certainly not out of your bloodstream after
such a meal. Your body is never "not looking" okay, there's no fooling
your body, you can't tell your body, "Look over there!" and then have a
cheeseburger and "what was that, what was that?" you know. Your body
knows exactly what you eat and your bloodstream, your liver has to deal
with everything you eat and the consequences of each meal build up day
after day, month after month, year after year. The face you see looking in
the mirror is the result of the decisions you've made throughout your life.
Should I eat this, should I not eat that, should I smoke this, should I not
smoke that, should I drink this, should I not drink this. Health is not
something the doctor can apply to you like calamine lotion, health is
something you do on a daily basis and making wise decisions at the
dinner table is one of the best things you can do to assure your health.

I went back to my patient and discussed a bit about his dinner, but there
was not much to say because the fat was already in his blood. What was
especially disturbing to me however, was several days later we took him
down to the operating room. I gave the man a thousand micrograms of
pheontonel and put him to sleep, and the surgeon opened up his chest
and opened up his coronary arteries, and from this man's coronary
arteries he began pulling yellow, greasy, waxy, fatty deposits that look
like this:

[ ]

What you are looking at is the plug of fat that built up in a man's right
coronary artery. The artery was a tube coming out at you from the screen.
The artery wall has been cut away and you are looking at the plug of fat that
built up. The fat started out at the outer edges of the artery wall and as the
months and years go by of these repeated tides of fat flowing through the
arteries, the fat starts building up on the inside of the arteries like scale builds
up in the inside of a hot water pipe. And as the months and years went by
the fat crowded in and crowded in on his blood flow channel till finally only
the small dark area was left for the blood to flow through and when a clot
formed here it stopped the blood flow the his heart, stopped his heart and
bought him a ticket to the autopsy table. This is the number one cause of
death in western societies. In North America every thirty seconds
someone grabs their chest and falls over with a heart attack because this
greasy material is clogging up arteries to their heart. This disease is called
atherosclerosis, the number one cause of death and disease in western
societies.

This material is quite remarkable. When you send it down to the pathologist
and you ask him to do a chemical analysis the report always comes back
the same, saturated fat and cholesterol, essentially it's animal fat. The report
from the pathologist never, ever, ever contains the words remnants of
broccoli, rice and tofu. The good news is this stuff will melt away. If you
clean up your diet and start taking a walk everyday, and get rid of some of
the stress that builds up within you, this is a reversible disease and will melt
away.

for the locals of Hunza Valley, says Khwaja Khan, a physician in the Hunza town

Khan says, were cut off from the outside world for centuries by the 7,000-meter

spartan menu of apricots, walnuts, buckwheat cakes and fresh vegetables. Many
cross the century mark, and a few motor on for another 10 years or longer.

LOL!!! In contrast to that, you still haven't answered some very
significant questions about your supposed ethical superiority. Hey,
now that you mention it, now would be a great time for you to try!
Try answering these, to start with:

1. Why do you want everyone to think it's ethically superior to
dishonestly deny that any animals raised for food have decent
lives of positive value, than it is to be much more honest and
realistic and acknowledge that millions of them do?

2. Why do you want people to think it would be better if there
was only wildlife, than for there to be both wildlife and domestic
animals?

3. Why do you want people to think it's better for prey animals
to suffer much much more from starvation, disease and non
human predators, than it is to be killed during designated
periods of time by human hunters who are the only beings that
deliberately try to kill their prey humanely, and who cause much
much less suffering to pregnant and baby animals?

Excellent point...like the doc I too am wondering
if there's even enough meat on a lemming to make

When she wanders off by herself she gets lost. You
should see her trying to deny that there are millions of
frogs in rice fields in Texas, while at the same time
trying to come up with an explanation as to how the
frogs she denies are supposedly able to survive the
draining of those same rice fields. It's loads of fun :-)

Really trying to get Alt.slack to convert to vegan is futile. Most of
us would eat humans if prepared well. I mean Subgenius is an end of

I'm prepared! I got my bib, my BBQ tongs, one of those lobster-cracking
gizmos (in case it's Stang we're eating) and a bunch of beer to go with
it, so BRING ON THE HUMAN FLESH!

"The disease is ubiquitous; everybody has it," he said.

"So you're saying I have it, anyone whose eating the American diet?" Smith asked.

"If you were to suddenly die and you were autopsied, yes, you'd find the disease."

"All of us have it?"

"All of us who are eating the typical Western diet, and that's been proved by study

I call bullshit, no comparison to the cannibal diet. Human flesh could
possible reverse any heart problems. And what about eating lowfat
seakittens and anorexic cows? Bambi is lowfat and VERY tasty. Bambi is
also free of growth homones and all that crap. Or low fat bunnies, or
low fat puppies...

I bet we can genetically engineer low fat puppies, I mean we can start
with the DNA off the ones PETA steals from shelters then kills and
throws in dumpsters. Or lowfat mink, - we can take DNA from all those
hypocritical PETA spokesbitches who cry about animals one day and do a
photo shoot in a genuine mink coat the next.

See, we can work together to find tasty animals to genetically
engineer.

'Responses of Plasma Lipoproteins and Sex Hormones to the Consumption
of Lean Fish Incorporated in a Prudent-Type Diet in Normolipidemic Men
...
Objective: The effects of lean fish on plasma lipoproteins, postheparin
plasma lipolytic activities and sex hormones were examined in 11
normolipidemic male subjects.

Methods: This study was a randomized crossover trial of two isoenergetic
prudent-type diets, lean fish diet and beef, pork, veal, eggs and milk (nonfish)
diet. Experimental diets provided approximately 11800 kJ-18% as proteins,
50% as carbohydrates, 32% as lipids [ratio of polyunsaturated to saturated
fatty acids (P:S) of 1:1 compared with 0.5:1 in preexperimental diet], and
260 mg cholesterol/day.
..
Results: Compared with the nonfish diet, the lean fish diet induced higher
plasma total and LDL apolipoprotein (apo) B and apo B:apo A-1 ratio,
indicating that the substitution of lean fish for beef, veal, pork, eggs and
milk provides little benefits with regard to plasma apo B concentrations in
a low-fat high P:S diet. Moreover, triglycerides:apo B and cholesterol:apo B
ratios of VLDL were lower following the lean fish diet than the nonfish diet,
suggesting the presence of smaller very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL)
particles following the consumption of lean fish.

Fatty fish perhaps?

Comparison of three species of dietary fish: effects on serum concentrations
of low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol and apolipoprotein in
normotriglyceridemic subjects
..
Limited information is available comparing the effect of different species of
fish on serum low-density-lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) and
apolipoprotein B (apo B) concentrations. We fed 21 normotriglyceridemic
males diets containing different species of fish (200 g Dover sole, Chinook
salmon, or sablefish) for 18 d in a three- period crossover design.
Concentrations of apo B and LDL-C rose on the salmon and sablefish diets
compared with the sole diet (P = 0.02 for apo B, 0.08 for LDL-C). These
increases were parallel to each other: apo B rose 14% and LDL-C rose
16% on the salmon diet and 17% and 14%, respectively, on the sablefish
diet compared with the diet consumed before the study. These results
suggest that the consumption of fish with a moderate amounts of n-3 fatty
acids may cause a deleterious rise in LDL-C and apo B concentrations in
normotriglyceridemic males.

A conversation, whether it's on Usenet or face to face, is a
progressing series of statements between people in which later
statements are related to earlier statements.

Randomly pasting articles vaguely related to an overarching theme is
not the same thing. It's contextless and makes no real point.

I'm guessing that you started doing it though because when you were
trying to express your own opinion yourself, everything you said was
inevitably idiotic. I guess when I pointed that out to you, you must
have realized it was true, because it was exactly then that you
started just copying-and-pasting other people's words.

After all the shit I've had dumped on me in these groups
I'm entitled to throw as much back as I want to. And the
days of the frogs/no frogs idiotics was fun...I miss it. I enjoy
other people's idiocy and "pearl's" is no exception. It seems
to have a certain variety of cluelessness that makes it sort
of special. She wants to disbelieve in the frogs because a
Texas rice farmer explained to us that:
_________________________________________________________
Message-ID: <379084...@wcnet.net>
From: diderot <tam...@wcnet.net>
. . .
a very conservative annualised estimate of vertebrate deaths in organic
rice farming is ~20 pound (arithmetic follows). this works out a bit
less than two vertebrate deaths per square foot, and, again, is *quite*
conservative. for conventionally grown rice, the gross body-count is
*at least* several times that figure. collateral included deaths from
'conventional' agriculture are more inferential than from 'organic'
production (explained later) and, although the number of deaths is fewer
in organic v. conventional, they are far more visible in organic
production.

the vertebrate deaths come from: frogs (5+ species), toads (common
bufo), anole lizards, shrews (3 species), voles, mice, rats, snakes, a
couple of kinds of turtles, cats, rabbits, skunk, nutria & muskrats,
raccoons, possums, deer (never less than a pair of fawns harvested per
50 acres), pheasants, quail, pigeons, cattle egrets, sparrows,
starlings, waxwings, .... although all of these are not harvested
*every* time, they are the 'regulars.' occasionally a canvasback, teal,
heron, mallard, black duck, coot, spoonbill, crow, hawk, kite, eagle,
buzzard ... is shredded, as is the occasional feral pig or lost calf,
coyote or dog.

Well golly, let's put that theory to the test!

- First you posted an idiotic hysterical comic image of an evil
world-raping American instead of actual making a point, demonstrating
yourself to be a drug-addled hippy idiot

- Next you argued that eating meat is like doing heroin, which is
idiotic. I point out why.

- Your reply? "Nope." That's it. "Nope." At that point it has
become clear to me that you are an idiot.

- Despite that, I patiently explain that your logic doesn't hold up,
that the "heroin-like" state of a brain having eaten meat is actually
going to be a normal state. Your reply? You copy and paste several
long articles which don't refute my point. What an idiot.

- You argue that people have been drinking alchohol for a long time
too, so my point is wrong. This doesn't even make sense, people eat
meat for survival, they don't drink alchohol for survival. Completely
fucking idiotic.

And so on and so on and so on.

Sorry Professor Idiot, but your theory doesn't hold up. Every word
out of your mouth has been jaw-droppingly stupid.

I sincerely believe that you are a vegetarian and that it is having a
negative effect on your brain. Really, no joke. You obviously have a
really hard time making conceptual connections that would be easy for
most people.

are conspiracies.

You want to be environmentally freindly, find a way to wipe out the
human population completely.
Mind you, a few thousand precious cows, pigs, and bunnies will die
painful deaths with no one to let them out of there barns and cages.
And considering the lack of predators in most areas since humans
killed them off for sport, the over population mess will be nasty.
Its a small price to pay however. Every human being will stop eating
meat. Pollution will go down slowly but down all the same, and no
animals will be harmed by humans.

So get to work on that. You need to find a way to kill everyone
including yourself.

I've got about six months of alt.slack in the news spool on my
computer. This is the only reference to 111:

Subject: 111
Newsgroups: alt.slack
Date: Sat, 6 Dec 2008 16:37:16 -0800 (PST)
From: Monsignor Tartarus Sanctus <tart...@rome.com>

This has been a test of the emergency j'lahn notification system. Had
this been a real j'lahn emergency, j'lahn would have responded withing
two hours.

Tartarus

I suspect you are referencing something else which is known only to
the butt-fuckers in your little neo-Nazi inner-circle-jerk.

Read for content, you worthless dipshit. Learn how to spell

And to all you worthless fuckstains pretending to "investigate"
something, while using the opportunity for yet more hatemongering and

As I already summarized:

Your contention was that this effect was due to what you said humans
have been "doing to themselves for thousands of years". Status: false.

You then went on to build on that falsehood, implying that vegetarians
("somebody") lack the effects induced by consumption of fat ('meat'),
and therefore have "a brain in an abnormal state", apparently forgetting
in your strident screechy denial the healthful fats found in plant foods.

'Do Plants Feel Pain ?

No scientific evidence supports such a contention. For instance Ted
W. Altar, Simon Fraser Univ. (plant molecular biology dept) Burnaby,
Canada, wrote (Dec 18, '92): (http://tinyurl.com/35p983)

"1. Our best science to date shows that plants lack any semblance of a
central nervous system or any other system designed for such complex
capacities as that of a conscious suffering from felt pain.

2. Plants simply have no evolutionary need to feel pain. Animals being
mobile would benefit from the ability to sense pain; plants would not.
Nature does not create gratuitously such complex capacities as that of
feeling pain unless there should be some benefit for the organism's
survival.

With respect to all mammals, birds, and reptiles, we know that they
possess a sufficiently complex neural structure to enable pain to be
felt plus an evolutionary need for such consciously felt states. They
possess complex and specialised organisations of tissues called
sense organs. They also possess a specialised and complex
structure for processing information and for centrally orchestrating
appropriate behaviours in accordance with mental representations,
integrations and reorganizations of that information. The proper
attribution of felt pain in these animals is well-justified, but it is not
for plants by any stretch of the imagination."
___________________________

An observer wrote that people who maintain deceitfully that cutting
a tomato inflicts as much pain as killing a cow, are in fact, by inference,
also shamefully belittling the suffering of humans at the hands of
tyrannical dictators, such as Hitler and others like him in history. For
who could seriously dispute that there is incomparably greater similarity
between a cow and a human being than between a cow and a tomato,
even in the absence of any of the foregoing scientific evidence.

He added: "Isn't it about time that these callous twisters ceased to
persist in sidetracking what would otherwise be a sincere discussion
on the abuse of the right to life of innocent beings, all because it
provides yet a further rationalisation for eating herbivores. If such
people refuse to control their lust for flesh, let them (as also advocated
by the Greek philosopher Plutarch) at least eat predators who have the
same uncontrollable obsessive need to kill harmless creatures."

Nice example of dietary racism. I'm not surprised pearl would post
such mindless drivel.

"Dietary racism: A form of bigotry that is the analogue, in dietary
terms, of racism; i.e., the hatred of other groups of people because
their diet is different from your diet or a hypothetical "ideal" diet,
and/or feeling superior to other people because your diet is
different.

Some raw and veg*n diet gurus actively discuss compassion and/or how
the diet they promote will make the world a better place. However, the
reality is that their message (e.g., in the case of certain
extremists) may be seriously undermined by the presence of blatant or
subtle dietary racism. A couple of the more blatant examples are:

You are "inferior" unless you follow the advocated diet. Some raw/
fruitarian proponents like to insinuate that unless you have a 100%
raw vegan and/or fruitarian diet, then you are "inferior" and/or your
DNA "mutates," and you become something less than fully human (i.e.,
like an animal).

The rhetoric of bigotry. Some raw/fruitarian advocates refer to those
who eat cooked foods as "cooked-food morons," "cooked-food addicts,"
or say they are "failures" or "degenerates."

Extremist view: crank science good, "cooked science" bad. Very common
is for raw or fruitarian promoters of crackpot crank science theories
to reject conventional, legitimate science that debunks their dietary
dogma, on the grounds that the scientists involved eat cooked foods,
hence their work is unreliable and cannot be trusted. This may be
expressed in other terms, e.g., saying the scientists have "damaged
brains," they deal in "cooked science," and so on. If the bigotry in
such assertions is not clear to you, consider Hitler denouncing
"Jewish science," and the analogy should then be readily apparent.

Somewhat more subtle examples of dietary racism are:

Pride in compassion = self-righteousness = feelings of superiority.
Veg*ns who actively claim they are more "compassionate" individuals
may come to express outright disdain for, and implicitly behave as if
they feel they are superior to, those people who eat meat.

Veg*ns may claim that those who eat meat are "murderers," because
"meat is murder." (This specific claim is not very common.)

Many, and probably most, of the individuals who follow raw/veg*n diets
are adamantly opposed to racism, and would not tolerate hateful racist
attacks on ethnic groups. Why, then, are so many silent when raw/veg*n
extremists openly engage in dietary racism (which can be very vicious,
at times)?
Assessing diet gurus who display dietary racist behavior. If you find
significant and long-term evidence of such "dietary racism," you
should consider the impact that has on credibility, and whether you
really want to have such a person as your "diet guru." Does the hatred
and bigotry implicit in dietary racism reflect your personal views and
values? If you would not follow a regular racist, why would you follow
a dietary racist? Do you seriously think dietary racism, as a tactic,
will help make the world a better place?

Finally, the use of the term "dietary racism" here is meant to clearly
illuminate the bigotry and hatred of others that, sadly, is close to
the heart of the message promoted by certain raw/veg*n extremists.
(The intent is not to diminish or slight the tragedy that regular
racism represents.)"

'Bullies project their inadequacies, shortcomings, behaviours etc
