A truly shocking story:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8369674.stm

"Four people have been arrested in Peru on suspicion of killing dozens of
people in order to sell their fat and tissue for cosmetic uses in Europe."

After getting over the shock that this was actually happening, I thought
about it a bit more. I have in the past argued here that the restriction
on individuals selling their own body parts (a kidney, blood, whatever) is
not just state interferance in self-determination, but also an unfair
restriction on the poor who would otherwise metaphorically have a goldmine
within their body.

I had no idea that there was a lucrative market in human fat. Something
that many people in the rich world spend endless time trying to rid
themselves of is actually worth a fortune! This trade should surely be
legalised so that fat, poor people can sell their fat, thus destroying
the black market and preventing such a horrific trade as in the case
above? Everyone's a winner.

People could sell their toe nail clippings as a substitute for Thino
horn as well! :-)

Well quite! I understand that in classical Greek times, rich women used to
buy sweat scrapings from sweaty young athletes...
