For a start here is how to set up a filter in Outlook, (and perhaps also
Outlook express).
Save this post for later reading if you want to refer to it later.
In Outlook click on, "Tools", on the toolbar.
Now click on, "Message Rules", and select, "News".
On the box that pops-up, select, "New".
A four section box will now pop-up.
In the part No.1, put a tick in the box, "Where the From line contains
people".
In the part No.2, put a tick in, "Mark it as read", scroll down this box and
tick box, "Stop processing more rules.
This puts a text message into part No.3, and a blue underlined bit that says
"contains people", and you click on that blue text.
This will pop-up another box with two white parts. In the top one you can
type the name of someone who you never wish to see on the group, (or cut and
paste the e-mail address they used to post with into that box), now click on
the, "Add", button.
The name, or e-mail address, will now be in the bottom white window.
So click on, "OK", to return to the previous window.
At the bottom give your new rule a name then press OK, to return to the
previous window and there click upon, "Apply now".
This brings up a window where you select, (in the top window), your new
rule, or rules, and now you can click the browse button.
This brings up a window showing all the groups you are subscribed to.
Either select a group to apply your filter to,or select the entire list of
newsgroups by clicking on the top folder that will be called whatever news
server you are signed up to.
There is one other task to rid yourself of your choice of nasty people.
Click on "View", on the toolbar and select, "Current View", select, "Hide
Read Messages".
Now the names or e-mail addresses you chose will not show up in the group
and, here is the really good part, - - -
To add to your list of filtered out names and e-mail addresses you just go
to, "Tools", "Message Rules", and click the"News", button. The name you gave
the rule will be there.
If you select it the names and e-mail addresses you filtered out are in the
bottom window in underlined blue print.
A click on the blue text brings up a window where you can type, or paste,
another name or e-mail address and click, "Add", to enlarge the list of
filtered out names.
All that sounds complicated but it is far easier to do that to explain it in
a post.

The filter system is very flexible and can be set up to filter out, or
filter in, just about anything by just using those settings on "Message
Rules"
