You seem to have forgotten about the people who are ambidextrous.

that's 100% - what about the ambidexterous, not to mention those who are
completely armless?

Or those who are naturally left handed but who, through a stroke or
similar, are forced to be right handed??

From the original post:
12% of the *people in the world* a left handed

So, yes!

I suppose it is just possible that the number of people counted twice
(ambidexterous) is equal to the number of people not counted at all (armless)

okay I'll admit the second one may be slightly out it may only be
87.9999999999999999% but for the purposes of this post 88% is close
enough.

Nope. Why are you assuming that all of the people missing one (or more) of
their hands were originally right-handed? ;-)

I'm not the original figure was correct as far as I know, they are sent
to me daily. The 88% would include the ambidextrous who favoured their
right hand the others being included in the left hand statistic. Those
people who have lost either hand or both hands are such a small
percentage of the world's population to be considered insignificant for
statistical purposes. Each person minus a limb would be 100/6.27 billion
of a percent.

Are you taking account of those who are ambidextrous, and if so what
proportion of the 12% lefthanders does that account for? :)

Perhaps he's counting those in both LH and RH numbers.

If so, that makes both figures wrong. ;-)

I wouldn't argue with that - they aren't my figures after all. Perhaps he
was trying to say 12% of people in the world are solely left handed,
meaning the other 88% are made up of all the others regardless of whether
they are solely right handed, ambidextrous, limbless or whatever else can
be thought up, like the 'Mouth and Foot Painting Artists'

If the original theory is correct then approximately 12% of those who
are ambidextrous should favour their left hand. I'm right handed but
left footed. I write right handed, my left foot is my stronger, in
football I've always played on the left and kick with my left foot where
possible. In cricket I bat left handed but bowl right handed. Snooker I
cue right handed. When shooting I have the rifle against my left
shoulder.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who switches hands/feet when necessary.

I play tennis with a back hand only (I switch hands, it don't half
throw out my opponent!!); shoot with the rifle against my right
shoulder; kick a ball with my left foot; write right handed by
training although I'm naturally left handed so I use both; bowl
(10-pin) with either hand; catch and throw with my left hand; if I'm
only using one hand to type with I'm quicker with my left hand than my
right; rounders or cricket I'll use the bat in either hand but
predominantly left hand for rounders and right for cricket!!

True, but rest assured that when what we said isn't exactly what we meant
there's always someone handy in UPS with the nit-comb to point it out to us.

Yes but isn't it a fact that even if you don't have any arm because
(left/right handedness is controlled by the brain ) then you would still be
either technically right handed, left handed or ambidextrous which in turn
affects your favoured foot?

I don't think he followed the stars. He ended in in that dark desolate
land named Tiscali. He never was a prolific poster seemed to use us to
advertise his site, which incidentally is still maintained and appears
up to date. there was also that Welsh Raebit Paula4 or something
similar, thought she was the dog's dinner until someone pointed out she
was more dog than dinner.

I've lost mine though. Will Giz's flea comb do?
