She collects and delivers, then returns three old folk who otherwise wouldn't
be able to get their evening out easily.
It's only costs a fiver and occasionally, she might win her entrance money
back.
Last evening, at a little before 7, she picked up John a 92 year old widower
and returned him just after 10. His house had been burgled.
Ransacked the place and they got away with some pieces of jewellery that he
treasured from his dear wife and some 5 thousand quid in cash, plus (they
think) his bank cards).
Wife stayed with him until the cops arrived. He was done over two years ago
after which the cops installed a motion sensed camera. The policeman
retreived the card from the camera, the neighbour put the old chap up for the
night.
Forensics will go over the place today and Herself will give a statement if
required.
I do not normally wish harm on anyone, but for this or these slimy two toed
knacker crackers - I hope their testicles painfully fester and swell to the
size of barrage balloons.
How terrible. I hope they catch the thieves and deal with them
appropriately.

Absolute Horrible Shame on those who did dhat to him.. Prob. somebody
had been watching his going and coming each week and knew just when to go
in.
Marg.
The trouble is Barb, that if the householder catches them and "deals with
them appropriately" the householder will be imprisoned - see news earlier
this week. If the police catch them they will probably be sent to the
seaside for a week.

People will forget what you said.
People will forget what you did, but
People will never forget how you made them feel.
Oh that is dreadful. At his age that could affect the poor man a lot more
than just losing property.
Festering and swelling is too good for them Goro
They should be chopped off!!!!!!!

I suppose the only bright side is that John wasn't in when they called,
otherwise he'd either have been bludgeoned to death or jailed for fighting
back. At least he's alive and still has his freedom.

They'd most likely only get a few hours community service Barb, whereas
John has lost a lot of memory jogging items, money, credit cards and the
sense of security in his home. I agree with Goro on what their punishment
should be but our judicial (there's a laugh) sentencing system is all to
pot. Did you see this in the press this morning?

I hope they get the b***ards Goromoff But saying that they won't get what I
would call a "proper" punishment

They are no longer a danger if they have left your home - echoes of the
Martin case. You have a pretty free hand if they are on your premises and
a danger to you, but once they leave (or start to) the threat has gone.

Cats have purr-sonality =^..^=
And by that they'll take it to mean 'Don't get caught next time' :(
At the time of the assault the burglary had finished and the offenders were
running away from the scene. He was chased by the homeowner and his brother
who then beat him up with a cricket bat and a pole. Whilst I applaud their
actions privately they should have ONLY detained him and handed him over to
the Police using the "minimum amount of force required".
They didn't, they beat him up hence the punishment.
As long as you catch the offender in your house and use the minimum amount
of force to either fight him off or restrain him using your common law power
of arrest, there SHOULD be no comebacks.

Can't slap them these days :-(
I never thought it would get as silly as the USA but it's worse...
In 1972/3 I worked in Arizona for a while. A (very big) work colleague
was driving home from work one day when he saw a policeman being
attacked by 2 men. He stopped, grabbed one of the 2 attackers and hit
him on the jaw with the heel of his hand, and broke the guy's jaw.
This subdued him a bit and he and the policeman managed to control the
two ruffians until reinforcements arrived.
Next thing my colleague hears is he's being sued for assault by
broken-jaw.
In court the judge says "why did you use the heel of your hand?" to
which he responds "So I wouldn't hurt my knuckles".
"Try not to hit the next one quite so hard." says the judge "Case
dismissed"
Fat chance of that in the UK these days.

Er do we know whether the thief in question is of the variety to have
any to be chopped off?

From the neck! Solve a lot of problems and save a lot of expenditure and
reduce prison population at a stroke.
It's already too late for that methinks Derek. :(
