I would be really grateful if someone could tell me how many books there are
in the Ender Wiggin saga.

Children of the Mind is a direct sequel to the execrable Xenocide, and
is also pretty bad. Ender's Shadow takes us back to the events of
Ender's Game from a different point of view, and is reputedly pretty
good, but I haven't read it yet -- it's only out in hardback.

I don't agree with Mr. Scott on the subject of Xenocide and Children
of the Mind, (I thought both were pretty good) so take that as a guide
to the following:

Ender's Shadow is pretty good - but far from being Card's best work -
but only if you've read Ender's Game. It doesn't make a jot of sense
unless you've read about Ender's time at Battle School. The character
is pretty interesting, although I'll warn you now that the only
completely original section of the story (the bit before the title
character goes to Battle School) is pretty stomach-churning stuff.
The only fault I found was that Mr Card deserves a light horsewhipping
for using a coincidence that would've got Dickens hooted at in the
street to reach the ending he did.

Oh, and there's a massive clanger completely unexplained right in the
middle of the whole series of books, but let's leave that well alone,
since it doesn't detract too badly from the story. (You aren't likely
to notice it unless you really go hunting for it)

There's another thing I could criticise about Ender's Shadow, but not
without delivering a spoiler.
