The Dev still exists. It's just somewhat less self-consciously joke-
shop gothic than it used to be. And there's real beer. These are plus
points in my view.
The place is now called the Hobgoblin (in fact I reviewed the last
ever gig there, under the pub's old identity: http://www.nemesis.to/necrolive.htm)
and the anonymous heavy metal which I mentioned in that review does
seem to be the pub's default music choice these days. But then,
everything defaults to heavy metal in the end. Killing Joke, Christian
Death, the Devonshire Arms. They all go that way eventually.
People still go there...and sit around grumbling about the place. No
change there, then!
There are several goth-friendly pubs around London where special
events or meetings are held, and also several alterno/rock pubs where
goths can call in for a pint in vaguely appropriate surroundings. But
I don't think there is any specific goth-scene pub that caters
specifically for the gothic passing trade. This is probably because
there just aren't enough goths to generate any passing trade. Not even
in Camden...

But can they make up for the appalling way the previous tenants were
treated?
Given the vast array of pubs in London, is there really no alternative
option? I can't understand why more people don't seem to care about
this. Being thrown out of your business with two hours notice delivered
by a knock on the door, and then made homeless with just a week's
notice, in London? It's what you'd expect in a Dickensian tale, or
something from the 1930s. It's most certainly not an acceptable way to
treat people in the 21st century.

Is Camden actually much Goth any more? It's nice and interesting, lots
to see (and haggle for), but doesn't feel particularly Goth. The
ever-expanding Bazaar at the WGWs is where I tend to buy stuff now, and
not just because it's closer.

That still bugs me, too; I find it difficult to get over that. And apart
from having slightly better choice in beer, I cannot see any
improvement. It is not cleaner than it was, it certainly is not safer
(someone apparently got glassed one night while I was there. I say
'apparently' as I did not witness this, just the little commotion
after). It is louder, brasher, all which may be to the taste of many but
not me, for one. Jelly wrestling competitions? Please.

The market still is, in small pockets. Very small pockets... of course
the Black Rose has practically disappeared, subsumed by the rockabilly
side of the shop and After Dark went up in smoke...

It does. Stll waiting to see how that works out, only have been to the
place once, for Bedsitland and it was a good night although not a goth
one.

But also many of us have more or less given up on the Dev. It feels much
more aggressive, the change, I feel, has not been for the better. I
won't say I'll never go there because it wouldn't be true, some of my
friends still go and it is almost next door to where I live, but I'd
rather go to Big Red (never thought I'd say that) or to Quinn's.

It doesn't? It did a few days ago when I was there. And the toilets (at
least the boys' toilets) in an even worse state than before. It feels
more aggressive and, I'm afraid, I'm finding myself happier at the Big
Red or even the Fox.

I've heard that they've had complaints from a local about the noise.
The concil have told them they can't have bands on with drummers because
drummers
can't be 'controlled' via the cutout sound trips or whatever they use.
