The best in the world!  Too true!! my son served 14 years with the Royal Marines Band Service and I never miss an opportunity to watch them they are acknowleged by all serious Military musicians as the very best. long may they continue. I believe that the Band at the Edinburgh Tattoo was the Royal Marines Band of the Flag Officer Scotland and Northern Ireland, as you said rousing stuff indeed!!!

Aha I knew it.   There is still more than one band.  (My memory must have been acting up the other day).

Ok now - mischief time.   Which is the best band in the world?   The Royal Marines - OK - which Royal Marines band?

FOSNI (As seen on TV last Saturday from Edinburgh)

Any more offers from the bootnecks?

Hi Glyn

In answer to your question as to the best R.M.Band, early responses to my questions to those who know the subject is that before the reorganisation and the move of the School to Portsmouth from Deal, the answer would be the Staff Band of The Royal Marines School Of Music.

Further responses from friends who are part of the new Organisation are awaited to determine if the same view applies My son was fascinated with the question as he was an N.C.O. Instructor at the School at Deal.

Regards

Hmm at one time I would have said the RY Brittannia band but alas no more.    I was just commenting on the Edinburgh Tattoo last week about this funny enough and my sentiments were, "The Royal Marine's band must be the best staff band in the world at the moment because the defence cuts now mean that there is no longer another staff band in the British forces with the resource of the RM."   (Unless the Alanbrooke has been saved at full strength.)   That's one of my problems these days.   Things have changed so much since I rejoined civvie street in the late 80's that I know little of the current make up of units.

Well he's writing in it so my browser defaults to it when replying. As you
can see though it reverts to plain text for yours.

Bloody clever these Chinese.

Hey Glyn,

Never could figure out how to get back to plain text after some buffoon sent
some crappy HTML which, as you previously stated, cocks up all following
incomings!!

Suppose the answer is to use a "proper" news reader...

Email address is spamtrap free

It's actually pretty easy. That's why I never go off my trolley at someone
who does post in HTML. For all the whinging about IE it's very easy to
change the settings. Problem is a lot of new users find that their default
settings have been left at HTML and it takes them a little while to figure
out what it all means. I've got a lot of friends who are older than me and
they're trying to get into the 'computer age' at the moment. The whole
thing does their head in. I try to remember that only 7 or 8 years ago I
didn't have a clue either. The answer is - be gentle with newbies.

Well, all I can say to that is I should have RTFM!! Thanks for that Joe.
Why are us old'uns always too lazy to have a casual glance at the help
files? Which, incidentlally, are really quite helpfull. I consider
myself well and truly admonished!

Best wishes Gordon

I wouldn't go as far as to say admonished. Helped along a little bit is
more like it. Like I said in my earlier post, we need a little tolerance
on here sometimes. To many people jump in with both feet and alienate new
posters who could bring good input to the NG.

Happy posting.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Well, how nice to be referred to as a "new poster", makes me feel young
again! I have only myself to blame for my apparent ignorance. Just goes
to show that one can easily become complacent as time goes by.

Whoops, sorry mate. I wasn't implying YOU were a new poster. I was
generalizing - hoping that new posters would'nt get a hard time.

an insignificant faux pas that they may inadvertently make.............

Who on earth reads the manual. The correct sequence of events is to tinker
until you mess things up, then look at the manual, then shout for help cos
you can't fix it. <g>
That's how I started learning

Admonished? I consider myself chuffed to be able to answer a query, normally
they consist of too technical stuff.
