Has anyone in the UK been involved in disputes with social landlords
over the keeping of their power wheelchair in the communal area of
their housing? I have mine tucked under a small space by the stairs,
out of the way of anyone. None of the four residents have any problem
with this but I'm now told it must be removed within seven days or the
landlord's agents will remove it. They state that the materials on it
may create a fire hazard. Other tenants have been told they must
remove door mats, potted plants, a print fastened to the wall and a
clock. About ten years ago we were give an award from the same
landlord for have the most 'welcoming vestibule' on the estate :-(

That really is silly. Presumably the terms of the fire insurance your
landlord uses have changed. Is that a housing association flat, or what is
it?
Sorry I can't advise. You might try Citizens' Advice Bureau, although
you'll probably have a long wait - I hear they're more understaffed than
ever since their funding was cut.

It is a housing association. The local CAB is so overwhelmed it's
almost impossible to actually get any advice. The government refer to
them as 'Guidelines' but the HA is being draconian. We had a wood
panel print high on the wall and and a short wooden freize on a window
sill for keeping the pots of some pot plants hidden. They said wood is
a fire hazard and plastic plant pots are also. No mention of the fact
they use PVC conduit and all the doors are wooden as well as a
recently installed hand rail. Plonkers. I've now had a meeting with
the official H&S officer for the HA who actually agrees with me but
says he needs 'other advice'. So apparently his job title is
meaningless. Have to wait and see. Thanks for the reply.
