Harry Thomson (Tom) Jones, who died on Wednesday aged 82, achieved
success as a racehorse trainer in both National Hunt and on the Flat.
His most famous charge was probably Tingle Creek. This front-running
steeplechaser won 11 times and excelled particularly at Sandown (the
annual Tingle Creek Chase, named after the horse, is run there
tomorrow). In the second half of his career Jones concentrated on the
Flat, sending out four Classic winners.
