Vacuum cleaner reliability

So, do the assembled experts reckon the cyclone based cleaners are reliable.
As someone who has to employ a cleaning person, and cannot always get the
bags for cleaners.. why do they keep redesigning them.. I thought I might
get a small bagless one.

The current cleaner, bought from tesco many years ago for under 20 pounds
has been amazingly reliable, but its begining to lose its wheels and has a
bit of a crack in the pipe and the bags are pretty small.

I have been told that smaller bagless cleaners are expensive for what they
are and unreliable. What say you?
