I want to send a long case (grandfather) clock to Perth WA by airfreight.
It's 160 years old, wooden case. Very traditional sort of thing. Some/most
of it is fragile. 2.26m tall and weighs about 40 kgs
I know they are very fussy about wood products and fumigation may be
required. I hate to think what this might do to the mahogany case. I would
pre-pack the movement, and sundries in suitable packaging beforehand. I also
wonder about quarantine.
This would be collected from Perth airport by the buyer.
The intention would be to contact an airfreight agent, have it
professionally packed and winged off with full insurances.

Any recs for airfreight agents?

Thanks,
Nick.

You can probably add another 20 for the transit container it will
need to be packed in.

If treatment is needed there are a number of UK companies which can
carry it out before export from the UK. http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis
lists them and the processes used. If done on arrival I believe it
may take several weeks.

Unless pre-cleared it is unlikely that the goods will be made
available at the freight terminal.

I don't know of any freight agents but a colleague used PSS removals
to send some items to Australia last year and they got there OK and
without import problems

Thanks very much.

I've spent a couple of hours trawling through the DAFF website.
Some interesting but rather dismaying info.
Our European overlords have banned the use of fumigation substances
required by DAFF. Thus DAFF will not accept any EU fumigation certificate. I
find this rather hard to believe.
Back to square one.

I've spoken with PSS removals.
They pretty much confirmed the above. Have sent them a packing list and
await a detailed quotation.

Thanks again.

http://www.synergyhealthplc.com/applied-sterilisation-tech/gamma can
do gamma radiation sterilisation which is accepted - not sure what
size objects they can do or cost though.
