Hi.
In my 5 years of buying on ebay I have never recieved such a load of
rubbish. The discription of the items was far from the condition that
they were in, the coaches I would have thrown in the bin, the 0-4-0 was
rubbish with no key, the wagons were falling apart. I canot leave good
feedback for this transaction. I await your comments.

What would you do?

Depends on how much 26 is worth to you vis a vie a neg. Is it worth you
asking them to pack them back up and return them & you will refund them in
full plus re-imburse them for the cost of return postage? If you want to do
this I would advise pulling their contact details and telling them over the
phone - we all know how reasonable people suddenly become when they do not
have a keyboard to hide behind.
Alternatively you could communicate via messages and try to get him to be a
bit more precise about what he means by his feedback comment. Such as "What
can I do which will not result in your leaving me neg or neut feedback?".
Then if he says "I will not leave you neg/neut if you xxxxxx" you have got
the little prick. Report him for feedback extortion and any feedback he does
leave will be removed upon appeal. :)
If they were still acting the arse & you can not trap him as above I'd just
refund, let them keep it and walk away - hard for them to leave poor
feedback after that, also block them from your listings in future. Model
railway enthusiasts have a more than usual number of pricks in their midst,
a bit like Linux geeks, Ham radio geeks and suchlike - I am sure you get the
trend. ;o)
Thanks Niel. Yes, point taken :-)
I have already sent a copy of his message to eBay, although I don't
expect much in the way of action. TBH, I would have bent over backwards
to help the guy if he had not been such an arse. The neg doesn't worry
me. With 1600+ positive, one neg won't make much difference.
Inclination is to tell him to poke it, particularly as, knowing old toy
trains very well, I know he is trying to pull a fast one.

You forgot the SUN Geeks Niel. They are worst then the ones you mentioned.
Tell him you'll refund if he returns them, don't enter into any other
negotiation about adjusting the price etc. If you get them back send
him a refund, if he negs you just respond to the neg with "full refund
offered/given".
I would take the neg hit, had similar and then still got a neg no matter
what you do to try and resolve it.. Have worded comms in such a way to get
threatening replies and reported to ebay....not interested.

Thanks. That is exactly what I have done. Short message saying goods
are as described, but, if he prefers to return, I'll issue a refund.
Cheers,

He's trying it on.
I recently sold a cable to a guy who instantly gave me a neg saying
the cable didn't work - no contact, nothing - just gave a neg.
When I asked him why he did that without even contacting me first, he
said "send another and I'll remove the neg" - like a fucking idiot, I
did and he didn't :(
So I reported the cunt to eBay for 'Feedback extortion" and basically
they didn't give a flying fuck.
Is it any wonder sellers turn into bastards?
If they were as scruffy as he mentions then you definitely should have
stated this clearly in the listing.
I'm leaning more to side with the buyer here.

"I laugh in the face of danger, then I hide until it goes away"
I'm 50/50 on this one.
The item photo and description could have been better but then the buyer
had seven days to ask questions about condition etc.
Personally I'd ask him to return it and block him.
How is that a feedback threat? Obviously, if someone is not happy with a
transaction they are going to leave a negative unless it is put right to
their satisfaction and they are supposed to email you before they do leave
the negative to give you the opportunity to put the situation right.
Isn't that kind of how it is supposed to work?

They are toy trains which are fifty years old. Pristine, no, but
scruffy? No. Played with, but most were in very good condition, for
their age. I explained that one item (a coach) was repainted, and then
commented on missing parts I noticed, in the Q&A section. These items
are bought by collectors, not Joe Public, and, almost by definition,
anyone buying old trains knows that they are not going to be pristine
unless specifically described. This is a market in which I've been
involved since I was at school, and I seriously believe the buyer is
trying it on.

I can see where you're coming from, but the latest development is a
reply declining my offer of returned goods for a full refund. Why?
Because he knows that two of the items are worth the full price he paid.
The rest is just icing on the cake.

Silly question, but if I block him, or any other bidder, will they know
I've done so before they bid? What I'm asking, I suppose, is will eBay
tell the potential bidder he is blocked, and, can I see if anyone has
ever blocked me?
--
Geep
No, the joy of blocking a bidder is that they don't know that they are
blocked until they bid on another one of your items.
I had a question from a blocked bidder last month wondering why they
couldn't bid as they had dealt with me before. I have to admit that, I
took great delight in telling them that I didn't like having my time
wasted like before and that he would be better dealing with someone who
states that they are willing to wait 2 weeks for payment.
He called me a few choice names and threatened to report me to ebay.
Still makes me snigger :-)
Love it :-) TY

This time, dunno, but next time I'd use better pix. That one shot is
crap, and you ought to have included decent pix of each individual unit
as well, I think, these being collectors' items where condition makes a
really big difference.

That makes him a right twonk, in my book.

What a surprise.

If he was bothered he could have asked for better pictures or more
detailed description.
For detailed pictures I use Picasa.
Example here:

It is so easy to use and best of all, it's free.
Nope, but hopefully they will address that in the future.
Looks extremely useful. Thanks.
