You've been warned :-)

Are you (i) giving up smoking using gum/patches/etc to tail off the
nicotine[1] or (ii) giving up all forms of nicotine in one go? I wish
you well either way. I ask only because if it is (ii) we shall know to
shield tender eyes from the group (and can expect the mods to raise the
threat level to critical?)

[1] I am of course making an assumption as to the substance in issue.
And for what little it's worth, I found it easy to give up smoking after
a decades of chain smoking. OTOH I did not manage to give up the
nicotine gum until I retired :((

I used to smoke - and gave up a few years ago. Do an Excel spreadsheet which
continually updates with how much money you haven't spent (I won't say saved} -
I found that very encouraging. Also make sure you buy things (luxuries) with
the money not spent.

I still love the smell of fresh smoke when I sit near a smoker; but have
absolutely no craving whatsoever. Also convince yourself that you will be able
to take it up again when you reach an age where it will probably not make any
difference to your life expectancy. I am going to start enjoying a smoke again
(I'd better not say fag) when I get to about seventy.

Best of luck with it.

That must be a key difference between (ex)smokers and non smokers. The
smell of tobacco smoke makes me want to hurl and always has.

It's over 20 years now since I gave up smoking and the smell makes me
want to hurl, has done for a long time.

I gave up smoking many years ago 'Cold Turkey' *except* for medicated gum
massagers! (little wooden sticks which tasted fresh) Whenever I wanted a
smoke I used to chew one of those things and continued for many years if I
was anxious. I hear now that smokers can cut 10 years off their lives:(
One helluvan incentive.

Good luck Peri! Stick with it:)

I stopped smoking on 26 December 1999. While I detest the smell of
stale tobacco smoke and fag ends, I do like the smell of fresh cigar

student days. I brought back some very merry memories (of course I
didn't inhale the aroma).

I gave up over 30 years ago - I got pregnant and it made me feel sick. But
it was a few years later before the smell bothered me; I had several friends
who smoked and I neither craved nor gagged. I do now.
