Well, I know it's a bore but as everyone's going on about this review thing
..here's a notion deserving a little contempt from a wider public. A Ms Emma
Blades , of the Peterborough bridgegate Project says: "People who say it
(dope) is not addictive shows (sic) a lack of education. Physically it
may not be particularly addictive but people using it with tobacco can get
addicted to the tobacco and so feel the need to smoke more." Er..sorry Emm
but any fule kno that this is plainly a problem with the addictive qualities
of tobacco. Seriously, this sort of crap is sure to build up into a
scientific proof of the addictiveness of cannabis. Last night on BBC 2 Lord
Mackenzie - new Labour ex-police person held forth on the carcinogenic
properties of dope - he was repeatedly challenged to identify the source of
his information, by another labour MP. (Dr Ian Gibson). Lord Mack couldn't
oblige but chose to declare it as fact nonetheless. In Hellawell land, the
need for "independent" scientific "proof" of the addictiveness of dope is
plainly an urgent requirement. Might as well say fucking pizza is addictive
as people like a fag after pigging out on it. Preaching to the converted I
know, but the choices are limited. Can I also contend that in the entire
world of natural history , no creature is less rational than a parent who
has lost his or her child in tragic circumstances. Paul "father of Leah"
Betts and his missus are surely well in this bracket. He, in particular, as
an unemployed/ unemployable? middle age geezer seems to have frozen onto
this as a reason for living. Surely his situation should be considered
worthy of sympathy but not a place muttering his ignorant counsel into the
ear of ministers. No-one elected Paul Betts. He couldn't get Essex council
to put up with his self important anti drugs roadshow doing the rounds of
the local schools so he's gone straight to the top. Sorry to be harsh to
the unfortunate but this bloke has elevated the notion of fact finding being
as relevant as insight into an art form. Perhaps he should get onto the new
deal and learn to become a painter and decorator or something. Grief really
shouldn't be adequate qualification to influence government policy. He's
one bloke out of 55 million. Good night.
Yours, fuming !
