Okay, as some of you may know, I'm currently at Reid Kerr College in
Paisley, doing an HNC in Music Performance & Promotion. This Tuesday, I
have to hand in a bunch of short essays to my Structure Of The Music
Industry lecturer (Francis McDonald, Teenage Fanclub's current drummer and
head honcho of Shoeshine Records, fact fans :-), all pertaining to artist
management.

I was hoping that I could present each of the task descriptions to you
lovely people so I could see how they correspond to my shoddy notes, and
also to see if there's anything I've missed. Who knows? Maybe it'll spark
some management-related discussion too :-)

I'd ask friends at college for their notes...if any of them lived near me.

Anyways, here's the tasks...I've knocked out all the 'in no less than X
words' stuff...you guys needn't write the essays for me. Hehehehe :-)

Task A - Explain the relationship with artists and managers in a way that is
consistent with industry practices and regulations.

Task B - Explain the following 5 factors relating to artist/manager
contracts; Territory, Activities Covered, Exclusivity, Key-Man Provision,
Term.

Task C - Give an explanation of the following 4 factors relating to artist
management strategy; Record Contract Negotiation, Publishing Contract
Negotiation, Live Performance & Touring Negotiation, TV/Radio Performance
Negotiation.

Task D - Explain accounting and taxation procedures as they relate to artist
management, illustrating your answer with examples.

Task E - Explain the role of sponsorship in relation to artists and
management by answering the following two questions.

i) Explain the process by which an artist manager would go about
negotiating a sponsorship deal in no less than 100 words.

ii) Describe three types of sponsorship an artist could typically
receive.

Thanks in advance, guys. I hope you can help me out with your combined
experience. I might even pop into #UKMG for some live learning. LOL ;-D
