THE TIME IS RIGHT

After a break of some twenty years, four like-minded individuals got
together and discussed the re-introduction of a Folk Club for
Dumfries.

A meeting was held with Haig McCulloch of the Birkhill, St. Mary's
Street, and he was very keen to have the club meet on his premises.

John & Rona Carson, and Billy & Sheila Henderson, (pictured) who have
decades of experience between them, are the proponents of this
venture, and they feel the time is right for a folk & blues club.

There already is a wealth of musicians and singers, in and around the
Dumfries area; all that is needed is a venue to allow them to get
together on a regular basis.

A pilot night is to be held on Thursday, 15th December with two
guests; – Dave Gibb, and Alistair Ogilvy. The evening shall run from
8. pm until 11. Anyone wishing to stay on for an hour's session after
11, will be quite welcome. The room only holds 90 tops, so come early
so as not to be disappointed.

The “Bawbee Folk & Blues Club”s first official night will be on
Thursday 12th January 2012, starting at 8.30 until 11

The Club will run on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month. A date
will be set in the early Spring to hold a meeting for the purposes of
electing a committee. It is essential that two or three 17 to 18 year-
olds are elected onto the committee, as young blood are the future,
who will carry on the living tradition.
Even before this went to print, word was spreading. What was a buzz
is now a roar.

We hope you will come along and support this new venture.
