I've been offered the chance to DJ a monthly night on a Friday in London.
The basic music policy is alternative music 1977-1992(ish)...the basic idea
to cover everything from punk, ska, grebo, crusty, goth, shoegazer etc...
Bands wise think...Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, Dead Kennedys, New Model
Army, Levellers, Wonderstuff, Neds, PWEI, Carter, Ride, Lush, Nirvana,
Mudhoney, Janes Addiction, Pixies, Smiths, Therapy?, Faith no More, Sisters,
Mish, Joy Division, Nephs, Siouxsie, Cure, Marychain, Zodiac Mindwarp,
Dinosaur Jnr etc.. think you get the idea :)

Now it strikes me that this would appeal more to the late 20 somethings and
over. Question is, is there a need for a night like this? Would you go?

Don't get too excited yet...just doing a bit of research to see if it's
feasible :)

cheers

John

See
http://www.penguinsclub.co.uk
follow the Music link for playlists and that pretty much sums up the
night.

I deliberatly designed the night to appeal to a slightly older crowd
but I get a lot of young people coming and in general dancing more
than the older crowd.

See ya

Yes

No. Sorry, haven't been to a gig for years. First it was the wife, now
it's the baby. Hazards of being, er, late 20 something.

(ne1 remember "Thirty-Something" by I, Ludicrous?)

Yup, your playlists are the closest I've seen to what I intend Chris...

I don't own any, but I do remember them... Sure I can try and get hold of
some for the occasion!

I know I do play a bit more newer stuff than you seem to be intending
but the feel of the night is very much older stuff.

>Well have to try it and see what happens...:)

I assume I'll see you Saturday at Guildford so I'll get teh gory
details from you then.

Yes and yes, I've never got over seventies nights being full of Abba and
similar shite.

That's the way it will start certainly. I may well slip in newer stuff if I
feel it fits.

Yup...see you there. Also off to the Army warm up gig in Northampton. You?

Sounds like a night at the Garage, Highbury. And there's certainly a lot of
hot young bodies shaking to those beats; a surprisingly young crowd indeed.

There's Silver Rocket, too - first Friday of every month, Upstairs @ The
