Chris Dunford(cdun...@dunford.demon.co.uk)

This week : 15 New entries, no non-movers, 2 climbers and 23 going down.

CHART TIME! :
-------------
(* - my current favourites)
(!!! - Single Of The Week!!!)
(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie want to hurl!)
( (R) - Repeat., ie. a re-release)

40 (22) FALLER : Jam & Spoon featuring Plavka - Find Me * (R)

Ah well, it could've made it second time around... :(

39 NEW ENTRY : Haddaway - Catch a Fire
38 NEW ENTRY : Strike - The Morning After (Free At Last)
37 (24) FALLER : Lloyd Cole - Like Lovers Do *
36 (31) FALLER : The Connells - 74-75 *
35 NEW ENTRY : David Bowie - The Heart's Filthy Lesson

I've only heard a little bit of this, but today in the post I received a
strange promotional thing advertising the album and rabbiting on about the
year 1999 and "The Diary of Nathan Adler (Detective Professor)"
Has he completely lost his marbles?

34 (27) FALLER : Seal - Kiss From A Rose (R)
33 NEW ENTRY : EYC - Ooh-Ah-Aa (I Feel It)
32 NEW ENTRY : The Grid - Diablo
31 (21) FALLER : Vanessa Williams - Colours of the Wind
30 NEW ENTRY : Grace - I Want To Live
29 (23) FALLER : Michelle Gayle - Happy Just To Be With You
28 (16) FALLER : Donna Summer - I Feel Love (R)
27 NEW ENTRY : Brownstone - I Can't Tell You Why
26 NEW ENTRY : Thunder - In a Broken Dream

Anything to do with the Python Lee Jackson/Rod Stewart song?

25 (20) FALLER : D:Ream - Party Up The World :O ===

I hate D:Ream, I hate their music, and I've probably said that before.
A few weeks ago, Peter Cunnah came into the Little Chef I used to work in at
Monks Heath, near Alderley Edge, and they weren't very impressed with his
behaviour. :)

24 (12) FALLER : The Original - I Luv U Baby (Remix) (R)
23 (15) FALLER : Nush - U Girls (Look So Sexy)

Haven't heard the record, but the cover wins "Single cover of the week" award ;)

22 (17) FALLER : Cappella - Tell Me The Way
21 (10) FALLER : Oasis - Roll With It :O ===
20 NEW ENTRY : Prince/Symbol - I (Eye) Hate U
19 NEW ENTRY : Umboza - Cry India
18 (13) FALLER : Whigfield - Close To You
17 (19) *HIGHEST CLIMBER* : Gompie - Alice (Who The X is Alice?) (R)

For the past 3 weeks the other version of "Alice" has been the highest climber.
Now, again thru default, this one gets a look in. Do they deserve it though?

16 (14) FALLER : Scatman John - Scatman's World
15 NEW ENTRY : Erasure - Stay With Me
14 (11) FALLER : De'Lacy - Hideaway
13 (7) FALLER : Celine Dion - Tu M'aimes Encore (To Love Me Again)
12 (8) FALLER : TLC - Waterfalls
11 (4) FALLER : Blur - Country House *
10 (6) FALLER : Michael Bolton - Can I Touch You...There?
9 (5) FALLER : Berri - Sunshine After The Rain :O === (R)

Previously released under "New Atlantic featuring Berri", and sounding NO
different, can anyone please explain to me why re-releasing a song makes it
go immeasurably higher than the last time it was in the charts?

I have a bit of a nightmare about this song. I was in a fast-food restaurant
in St.Helens a few months ago (I won't say which one, but let's just say they
don't have a Burger King there so it's the other one), and it was full, but
we found a seat upstairs, where loads of seating had been roped off for a kids
party. They were playing a tape endlessly - a sort of 'musical chairs' game,
and the music started, then stopped, then started, etc. etc. but it was
SO LOUD I COULDN'T HEAR MYSELF FART, and as a consequence was completely
disssttoorrrttedd that it couldn't be heard properly. One of the songs playing
was this one, and I've hated it even more since then.

8 (9) CLIMBER : Smokie featuring Roy Chubby Brown -
Living Next Door To Alice(Who the F**k is Alice?)(R)

Roy "Chubby" Brown. Not funny. The end.

7 NEW ENTRY : Outhere Brothers - La La La Hey Hey

Another Outhere Brothers record in the charts. Less funny.

6 NEW ENTRY : Janet Jackson - Runaway

Janet Jackson's ear-to-nose chain. Very funny indeed :) :) :)

5 (3) FALLER : The Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You

A few years ago the Rembrandts had a radio hit (but alas not a chart one)
with the excellent "That's Just The Way It Is Baby". This song is just standard
American MOR AOR and a song apparently taken from the TV programme "Friends"
(which explains why the cast of the show are in the video too), but it's not
a patch on the song that should've got this high.

4 NEW ENTRY : Mariah Carey - Fantasy :O ===
3 (2) FALLER : N-Trance featuring Ricardo Da Force - Stayin' Alive
2 (1) FALLER : Michael Jackson - You Are Not Alone
1 *HIGHEST NEW ENTRY* : Shaggy - Boombastic

For those who don't know, this single is the latest in a long line up to be
used in a Levi's 501 jeans advert. This one features animated clay figures of
a girl in a blazing tower-block who is rescued by some muscle-bound guy on a
motorbike. I won't give away more of the advert as it's quite a laugh to watch
first time round.
Two No.1's out of 3 top 40 chart singles for Shaggy is very good going indeed.
The first was "Oh Carolina" just over two years ago (around the time I graduated
from Uni :), and the hit inbetween was just a few weeks ago with a cover of
"In the Summertime".

The one that got away :
-----------------------

No.60 Intastella - The Night

A dance-cover of Frankie Valli's excellent original, and this is also
excellent but different, and just as much a "one that got away" as one of their
earlier singles from a few years ago, "People". I'd prefer it if this one got
more airplay.
