The initial bit :
-----------------
This week : 12 New entries, 2 Re-Entries, 3 climbers, 2 non-movers,
21 going down.

All new release info, and the details for positions 41-75 and anything
marked "[@]" courtesy of Chris Dunford(cdun...@dunford.demon.co.uk)

CHART TIME! :
-------------
(* - my current favourites)
(!!! - Single Of The Week!!!)
(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie want to hurl!)
( (R) - Repeat., ie. a re-release)

40 NEW ENTRY : Sister Bliss with Collette - Oh What a World
39 (30) FALLER : Bon Jovi - This Ain't A Love Song
38 (28) FALLER : Wet Wet Wet - Don't Want To Forgive Me Now
37 (22) FALLER : Del Amitri - Roll To Me *

The third single from Del Amitri's album "Twisted" is a more upbeat affair
than "Here And Now" and "Driving With The Brakes On", and curiously has been
recorded like one of the old Beatles records with all the vocals coming out of
one speaker and most of the instruments coming out of the other. Bizarre, but
it's a top tune.

36 (25) FALLER : Menswear - Daydreamer *
35 (15) FALLER : Blondie - Heart of Glass (R)

Another remixed song, and another remix album soon to be released. I'll
be interested to see what's on it as Blondie had such an album released a few
years ago with a title like "Once More Into The Bleach", and I can still
remember the remix of Denis that was released then. Wonder if it's the same
album...

34 (29) FALLER : Scatman John - Scatman (Ski-Bass-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)
33 NEW ENTRY : All-4-One - I Can Love You Like That

About a year ago All-4-One were kept off the top slot for weeks on end with
the dire "I Swear", by the even worse "Love is All Around". They had a follow-up
single which flopped, and only now have got back into the Top 40, but it's at
a position which may not get the chance to climb next week.

32 (16) FALLER : Jamiroquai - Stillness In Time *
31 (20) FALLER : Jam & Spoon featuring Plavka - Right In The Night
30 NEW ENTRY : Soul Asylum - Misery
29 NEW ENTRY : Rolling Stones - I Go Wild *
28 (19) FALLER : Michael & Janet Jackson - Scream
27 NEW ENTRY : La Bouche - Be My Lover
26 (27) CLIMBER : Amy Grant - Big Yellow Taxi :O ===

Apparently Joni Mitchell is one of Amy Grant's favourite singer-songwriters.
If that's the case, then why did she choose to murder this all-time classic?
She's turned it into the sort of mindless, twee pap that one would expect from
this God-loving, "all is wonderful" popster. AND....after the line,
"They took all the trees, put 'em in a tree museum", she changed the line :
"and they charged the people a dollar-and-a-half just to see 'em"
to :
"and they charged the *PUBLIC 25 DIMES* just to see 'em"
Pass the sick bag.

25 (17) FALLER :M-People - Search for the Hero :O ===
24 RE-ENTRY : Bassheads - Is There Anybody Out There? (R)
23 (18) FALLER : A.D.A.M. featuring Amy - Zombie
22 NEW ENTRY : Junior Vasquez - Get Your Hands Off My Man!
21 (12) FALLER : Baby D -(Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime)I Need Your Loving *
20 (14) FALLER : Liquid - Sweet Harmony/One Love Family
19 NEW ENTRY : Dana Dawson - 3 is Family *
18 (13) FALLER : Pulp - Common People *
17 NEW ENTRY : Cast - Finetime
16 NEW ENTRY : Brownstone - Grapevyne :O ===
15 (11) FALLER : Whigfield - Think Of You
14 RE-ENTRY : Seal - Kiss From A Rose (R)

Re-released due to its appearance in the film "Batman Forever" released in
the UK theatrically on July 14th.

13 (8) FALLER : Bobby Brown - Humpin' Around :O === (R)

Another remixed re-release, another Top 10 hit for Bobby Brown who's basing
his career these days on re-releases, with a remix album on the way.
The only time I like hearing this one is when it was part of a Beavis and
Butthead episode.
Butthead : "*Humpin'* around?"
Beavis and Butthead : Huh-huh-huh-huh-huh-huh!

12 (7) FALLER : D:Ream - Shoot Me With Your Love :O ===
11 NEW ENTRY : Jinny - Keep Warm (Remix)
10 (6) FALLER : U2 - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me *

Just when you thought this was going to be a cover of Gloria Estefan's "Hold/
Thrill/Kiss Me", gladly it's not. Taken from the soundtrack of the third Batman
film "Batman Forever", released July 14th in cinemas, and stars a different
Batman (Val Kilmer), and has a different director (Joel Schumacher). Also
starring are Jim Carrey as the Riddler, Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face,
Chris O'Donnell as Robin and Nicole Kidman as the love interest.
Soundtrack album is available now.

9 (9) NON-MOVER : Edwyn Collins - A Girl Like You *

Woohoo! I didn't expect this one to go up this week as it's actually a
damn good record. This is an absolute classic and deserves to be heard 10
times in a row...at least. I wonder if they'll re-release "Rip It Up" from
his days in Orange Juice in 1983, one of my all-time favourites.

8 NEW ENTRY : MN8 - Happy :O ===
7 (10) *HIGHEST CLIMBER* : Shaggy featuring Rayvon - In The Summertime

Two years ago, Shaggy hit the No.1 spot with the infectious "Oh Carolina".
After a flop or two inbetween, his first hit in two years is a cover of the
Mungo Jerry classic. Not a complete disaster, but I would prefer the original.

6 (5) FALLER : Clock - Whoomp! (There It Is)
5 (3) FALLER : EMF/Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimer - I'm A Believer *

It only seems like yesterday when Vic Reeves teamed up with Wonderstuff to
record a cover of "Dizzy". More of the same looms over us with a cover of the
Monkees classic "I'm A Believer". Like Shaggy, this isn't a complete disaster
but I still prefer the original.

4 (2) FALLER : Robson Greene and Jerome Flynn - Unchained Melody/
White Cliffs of Dover
3 (4) CLIMBER : Diana King - Shy Guy
2 *HIGHEST NEW ENTRY* : Supergrass - Alright/Time * !!!
1 (1) NON-MOVER : Outhere Brothers - Boom Boom Boom :O ===
