Freeze distilled - leaves the nasty bits in, questionable legality

That reminds me. I took my mum to the German market in Leeds yesterday and

frozen vodka. Too damn cold for that stuff though so we had to make do with
gluhwein instead.

I thought vodka didn't freeze? A mate of mine keeps the stuff he bought
back from a trip to Russia in his freezer, it stays liquid and the cold
destroys any flavour it may once have had. You might as well keep a
bottle of cheapo horriblemarket vodka in there, I probably couldn't tell
the difference.

I half agree and half disagree. It's not been fractioned, it's just had
some excess water removed. But neither is it simply what you get by
bunging some yeast into a wort.

Hops aren't involved in whisky at all, are they?

A decent 60% vodka straight from the freezer, in a frozen glass is a
wonderful thing; there's definitely a difference between that and, say,
a 37.5% own brand.

100% ethanol freezes around -114C, which is a little chilly for me to
imbibe

Give it a go, I'm sure you'll be able to tell the difference, depending
on how enthusiastic your response is you may well fall over too.

:) It's more common than I thought in at-least-halfway-plausible malt
whisky, or so I'm lead to understand.

Freeze 'distilling' is illegal - without a licence. Makes beer
undrinkable if taken to extremes.

Trust me.

Oy! 'Ands orft me collar...

Depends how strong the vodka is, and how cold the freezer.
