While casually perusing Google Earth and Windows Live Local Beta
I noticed numerous crop marks such as this one:

Anyone able to hazard a guess as to what it might be? Also I
wonder what the possibilities are for an amateur to use GE and
WLL to make a new discovery?

Nick.

I forget the exact details, but around 6 months ago some guy in France
or Italy found a roman villa or similar right next to his house. I
would have ready it in the BBC History magazine iirc.

It's Rams Hill in Berkshire (although I believe the re-drawing of county
borders now places it in Oxfordshire) just off the Ridgeway.

The outer feature is an Iron Age Fort, and the inner feature is that of
a Bronze Age earthwork.

Some examination was undertaken in the late 1930s, but the major
excavations (of the Bronze Age camp) took place in 1972-3 by Richard
Bradley and Ann Ellison.

More details in BAR #19 (1975).

Regards.
