The missing options are doing my head in on SKY+

Why does Sky+ have options taken out, that are found on normal digi
boxes. The two that I have a gripe with are:

No auto channel change. I dont want to record every program on the
tele. I used to like the autochange (red button) booking feature of
old and used it a lot. Now all I can do is have it remind me. Why
take it away?

The next is the ability to block premium rate calls through the box.
my little lad has a habit of playing those daft games (he is 4) and
then pressing the button that charges to play when he gets past the
first level, or to record his high score. he does not get that it is
charging him money cos he cant read yet. When I called the customer
care line they said all i can do is get BT to stop all such numbers.
But what about if i want to call the dirty lines and its also big
brother season. So i have pulled the phone line out of the back; i
know i may suffer the wrath of sky but why does Sky+ have these two
missing?

I think the idea is that you set it to record, rather than interupt whatever
you are watching - after all, isn't that why you bought it?

The box will auto-switch channels if you have two recordings set & are
watching a third channel.

Indeed.

This is not a feature on any Sky digibox, though of course it should
be. Indeed Sky and all phone operators and premium number providers
should be required by law to only make premium numbers dialable on
your phone after you have specifically requested it in writing.

Unless you have a second "mirror" sub you do not require the phone
connection at all and Sky will not pursue its absence. Pull the plug.

I bought it so i could watch one channel and record another, watch a
recording and record two others etc. However i am in the house on a
night and the tele is not overly packed with good stuff that need to
be recorded all of the time. So why do I have to record everything
and watch it later. A typical monday is corra, eastenders, corra,
play rainbow six for a hour then big brother. i dont really want to
record all of that to watch tomorrow do I. What I do want to do is
set these to switch channels, not just remind me so that i have to dig
out the sky remote again from behind a mountain of pillows so that i
can press select when it says corra is starting.

You don't have to watch it that much later.......

Set whatever you want to watch as a recording. When you "remember" that you
wanted to watch a programme other than the one you are currently watching,
change channels & hit the rewind button.

That's not just Sky+, it's a 'feature' of ordinary boxes too. :(

Surely auto-view still works on regular boxes?

You can select a reminder from the search/scan banner, but you have to
go into the TV guide personal planner to set auto-change for the
selected program. :(

Quite. You can still do it though.
