best place / position for a telly?

That sketch might not come out. There's a wall, a chimney breast juts
out, back to wall, meeting another wall separating rooms.
Just wondering, does positioning a telly in a corner, as opposed to
flat along a wall make a difference in terms of sound quality?

Two things:

1. Get an AV amp with a 5.1 speaker setup and switch
off the TV's speakers permanently. Then you can have
the TV however you want without affecting the sound
quality (which will be greatly increased via the AV amp
anyway).

2. Mount the TV on a double swing wall mount then
you can push it flat to the wall when you're not
watching it, and swing it out to whatever angle you
fancy when you are watching it.

With what's on offer on British telly at the moment, I often wonder if the

P.S. And that may become a reality! I took delivery of the new music system
this week, and bloody hell, it really shows the difference between spending
£100 and the better part of a Grand on something you can enjoy and
appreciate. For the first time in over 30 years, I am now enjoying sitting
doing nothing but listening to music. The clarity and richness coming
through my old speakers is breath-taking. I had forgotten how music should
sound. It's the TEAC 650 separates and a Project Debut turntable. My
"belated" retirement present to me.

I have a TV in a corner and the sound quality is good. The TV also has
an external amp and a pair of speakers that produce even better sound
but I tend not to use them because the sound does not seem to be
coming from the same direction as the TV picture.

No, it didn't.

The best thing to do is use a fixed-space font, and then interested
readers can use any (other) fixed-space font to view your sketch.

Okay, so I'm guessing your sketch should look something like this...

..which also has hard spaces, more reliable than soft spaces.

Put speakers where you sit, and listen by the wall or in the corner.

Only way to listen; unfortunately I've still to replace the cartridge
on my Rega Planar 2 (haven't got round to looking up the best way to
balance it). Only thing I regret is living in an apartment, and
having come of an age where I actually consider the neighbours peace,
I can't enjoy it quite as much as I would like. The B&W speakers
produce magnificent bass, but obviously goes through everything. A
second hand record store opened locally last summer, and I had a whale
of a time in there. Unfortunately it's gone now, and I'm reduced to
Amazon for vinyl.

Precisely!
I've temporarily placed a loose piece of plasterboard behind the
telly to 'round-off' the corner where the walls behind it meet. Maybe
I'm imagining it, but it seems to make a difference.

You have to view it in a fixed-space (or fixed-pitch) font.

It's a font where the letters are not proportional, so a thin "l"
takes up as much room as a fat "M", like a traditional typewriter.
