Planet terraforming is going to be easier said than done

Using our planet as the prototype is perhaps not going to represent a
good example of how best to terraform. However, Darwin proved that
you can selectively terraform a relatively barren and isolated island
that’s geologically newish and considered by most as nearly worthless,
such as Ascension Island with hardly any topsoil and essentially
offering little or no truly original biodiversity, by systematically
transforming parts of it into a tropical Eden, accommodating more
biodiversity per given area than most anywhere on Earth.

Perhaps terraforming should be renamed: darwinforming

Therefore, once we’ve perfected our interplanetary space travels, or
at least for that of robotically transferring a few pods of complex
spores of life as we know it, whereas there’s a pretty darn good
chance that at least 0.1% of that effort is going to pay off by way of
those few microbes and larger forms of life from Earth having managed
to adapt and survive all on their own, whereas the purely random-
happenstance of any natural process creating truly original life is
most highly unlikely unless intelligent design gets involved. With
any luck and via direct intervention by those of the necessary
astrobiology expertise, seems that a 90% success rate of introduced
biodiversity making a go of it could be achieved with selective
microbes, insects, plants and animals capable of thriving in their new
biodiversity environment.

Even microbial saturated sea-foams of phytoplankton consisting of
bacteria and/or fungi spores could be expected to adapt along with an
assortment of diatoms that’ll mutate and replicate quickly in order to
survive. Because without these little guys there’s not much sense in
going with anything of a larger physiological impact, unless
considering their demise as contributing to the microbial assortment
of what darwinforming of any scale is eventually going to require.

Of course this method of directed panspermia and/or via direct
intervention represents an alternative as to how Earth could have been
seeded and thus terraformed by others, as God’s or simply intelligent
design performing what some would only accept as a purely natural
random happenstance process, or simply instead as having been
accomplished by those of similar capability to our space travel
expertise. However, due to the ongoing expansion of space and
otherwise the proper motion of stars passing nearby and moving on,
could easily represent a practical limitation as to why our planet is
ever getting a return visit by those responsible for having at least
supplied some of the complex biodiversity that subsequently evolved,
that’s both good and bad for us as being stuck here.

We also know from direct trial and error, that often our best
intentions of biodiversity interventions are deficient and/or
dysfunctional, because we had not taken enough into account, whereas
the transfer and introduction of different kinds of life intended to
rebalance an environment have at times done more damage than good.
Therefore, doing this as terraforming another planet or one of its
moons is going to be at least a thousand fold more complex unless a
sufficient astrobiology staff or team of expertise can stay on
location in order to refine and work out the bugs, and of course this
means we have to develop our interplanetary expertise to a much higher
lever than what we currently have (short of allowing one-way missions
that could be remotely sustained until EOL, but never brought back
home).

This isn’t a replacement creation thing, so much as offering a
perfectly logical can-do or trial-and-error method of intelligent
design simply expanding the survivable horizons for those of us or ET
Goldilocks to try out, or fall back on should their world turn out as
badly overpopulated and resource depleted as Earth, as simply worth
doing if only one out of ten selected planets manages to sustain any
imported life. At least we know that an open and positive/
constructive mindset like Darwin could manage to pull this off.

at least you need another 20 million of years before the first man can
set foot there... so we all are all struck here for so long and
nowhere to go... Mars is to cold and Venus is to hot for man to
survive...

Why not instead of having to alter the global environment of the
planet, or wait millions of years for nature to take its course, just
adapt yourself by using raw intelligence and applied physics?

Do open pit mining operations do anything to making their pits look
and feel pretty?

Do underground mining operations make their excavated tunnels into
tunnels of Eden?

Do submarine crews attempt to drain their oceans so that the
surrounding pressure goes away?

Do astronauts have to keep sucking up any passing particles so that
space remains a vacuum?

Where exactly does it say that heaven isn't too hot or too cold, or
simply too wet or too dry, and having an atmosphere that isn’t
different?

rivers flow on Venus... while we all know it to hot on Venus... and
water would not flow but condense to vapor...

We paid our NASA to fly a highly classified CIA spy satellite (aka
Magellan) into a polar orbit of Venus. You know, Venus is a nearby
planet that gets to within 100 LD of us every 19 months, and consider
the only item any closer is our moon.

How about the even better resolution images from ground based radar
imaging of Venus? (nowadays they can accomplish 25 m/pixel)

You obviously don't trust Kodak film and you have absolutely no camera
or lens expertise whatsoever, and yet you're qualified?

Does your computer even have any digital image processing software?
(you know, it's even free for those of us smart enough to download it)

At least you seem honest and consistent, which is way better than most

The Moon is dead world that satellited around our planet ...
impossible to terraform, since the moon has no burning inner core and
so it doesn't turn on it axes... As for Venus we must wait 20 million
years for the terraforming process to end. lt will become a paradise
and my Gran'Da'Dy did it...And as for Mars, its simply to cold there
for any life to survive... Man came from Mars and they where green

In case some of you know-it-all pucks missed the fundamental pretext
or concept as represented by this topic; to further clarify it’s not
about how to topic/author stalk in order to systematically fail from
the very get go, nor is this about how to selectively obfuscate and
intentionally do everything conceivably wrong on purpose, just so that
you get to brag to yourself and others of your kind that are equally
FUD capable of proving that only failure, doom and gloom is but the
one and only option regardless of the intended path and motivation of
what this topic has to offer those few of us willing to conceive of
future opportunities, whereas instead of our having to constantly
dwell and/or focus only upon each and every conceivable negative that
most any moron can just as easily elaborate upon, as we few
intelligent folks can elect to look forward and consider the value of
the positive/constructive attributes.

For those that wish only to promote the utmost FUD of naysay
constrictive and/or doom and gloom worthy outcomes, you can go right
ahead and create as many of those topics as you like, and you can even
pretend that anyone other than yourself actually gives a tinkers damn.

Meanwhile, the extremely nearby planet Venus should offer more
obtainable value and bang for the buck than all the other planets and
moons of our solar system combined, especially since our NASA is not
willing to help anyone get back on our supposedly inert and
monochromatic moon, or even to utilize its L1. So, imagine that we
have full access to the very best terrestrial science, technology and
materials (as mostly having been public-funded thus far) for assisting
in our quest of adapting ourselves and otherwise as much as possible
terraforming Venus to suit our future needs, as well as best for

going to represent a tough accomplishment, especially when 95% of
Earth doesn't even qualify. However, applied physics and the full-

Putting Goldilocks in harms way isn't necessary for accomplishing the
exploitation of such an extremely nearby planet as Venus, or even the
innards of our moon.

However, off-world exploitations are simply not getting mainstream
oligarch approved, and this kind of deeply rooted mainstream
opposition and its systemic obfuscation as to ignoring and/or trashing
others and their advancing topics on behalf of accomplishing off-world
exploitations, is clearly self-evident of mainstream applied FUD in

That's actually a very good analogy, even if exomoons of those large
enough exoplanets as well as considering those exomoons of all those
other rogue/wandering nomad planets, whereas it seems perfectly
logical that they should exist with their very own specialized kind of
evolved and adapted biodiversity, and as to why should intelligent ETs
even look anything like us humans, is just my way of always keeping an
open mindset as to what Goldilocks might consider as uninhabitable but

Terraforming the moon underground:
It's probably close to averaging -0- F (255 K) at no greater than 10
meters deep, and it shouldn't have any problems reaching 70 F (day or
night) at 100 km deep or possibly as shallow as 10 km. The R-factor
of lunar regolith (lose rock and crystal dry dust that’s at minimum 10
meters deep) is none too shabby, and otherwise the thermal conductance
or coefficient of its paramagnetic basalt shouldn't be any different
than here on Earth, except that our terrestrial basalt isn't nearly as
paramagnetic. Supposedly there is a little bit of granite to deal
with, but the samples thus far are inconsistent in composition.

The "Igneous Petrology" of our moon and Venus should be considerably
different than Earth.

Liquefied basalt as returning fallout from such truly horrific impacts
that should have extensively solidified and fused upon contact with
the relatively cool basalt surface, as such should have been quite
obvious and highly distinctive if such exposed lunar bedrock samples
had been return to Earth. Sadly, no such samples or even unique
meteorites ever materialized from our NASA/Apollo era that found our
naked moon as instead so unusually reflective and UV, X-ray and gamma
inert as well as hardly the least bit dusty, and what little crystal
dry dust there was seemed to offer terrific surface tension and
clumping for terrific footing and traction like no place else.

Gold, silver, platinum and many other rare and valuable elements to
most of us, that typically require extensive mining excavations with
often bloody and lethal consequences as well as spendy processing
along with consuming loads of energy that's also in short supply, not
to mention our having to deal with the subsequent pollution along with
some of their toxicity and subsequent trashing of our global
environment, are all perfectly good reasons as to why off-world
exploitations can't be such a bad idea.

The likes of our moon and Venus should offer at least a combined

With added resources, our planet can manage to survive with 10+

If we just sit around long enough we will not have to bother with
going to our moon, Mars or Venus in order to exploit those worlds for
their rare and perhaps common elements that are only rare to us,
because asteroids from the Sirius Oort cloud will be delivering those
to us within 10,000+ tonne asteroids that our very best observations
and radars apparently can not detect until it's too late. However,
perhaps it would be kinda nice of us to at least warn ISS of future
asteroids passing through their NO FLY zone, whereas our astronauts
only have a limited supply of Depends.

Russia has estimated their 16+ meter rock/asteroid of 10% iron and
nickel that only barely missed impacting a major populated city, is
perhaps only representing the tip of the cosmic iceberg arriving in
the form of the Sirius Oort cloud, that's highly populated by such
asteroids and likely to offer a few dozen planetoid size items.

Apparently our fancy radars are useless at detecting these fast moving
and typically fast arriving items of 1e4 to 1e6 tonnes until it's too
late. Perhaps this is not exactly good news for those onboard our
spendy ISS that are kind of sitting ducks.

Venus of course has a really nifty thick and dense atmosphere that
should fend off even 1e5 tonne asteroids, as well as otherwise
moderating the arrival of any 1e6 tonne item down to a dull roar of
causing hardly if any surface damage unless it was made of mostly pure
heavy metals. The naked moon on the other hand is always at serious
risk of even dealing with a one kg arrival, including a lethal spray
of secondary debris that could radius and/or downrange for 1000 km, if
not sent back into low orbit to only fall back at 2.35 km/sec upon the
whole 1.1e4 km circumference.

Too bad that only Russians have been smart enough to deal with Venus,
where as our best talent can barely get a robotic mission onto a
mostly frozen to death planet that at least so far indicates as having
few if any rare element that we could use, because even our moon is at
least a hundredfold more valuable.

Planet or moon terraforming is always going to be easier said than
done.

However, off-world terraforming shouldn't be so narrowly restricted,
as only intended for accommodating Goldilocks, because that would be
really pathetic or just plain stupid, as to exclude or banish the
other 99.9% of planets and moons suitable for robotic exploitation and
even special logistic habitats for accommodating engineering, science
and whatever human technical expertise needed in addition to their
robotics.

Submarines are a logistics solution for humans exploring and/or
exploiting underwater resources, as are airships intended for their
own kind of lofty logistics support on behalf of accommodating humans
at great altitudes and covering vast distances. This doesn’t mean
that our oceans need be drained or the sky filled up with piles of
dirt in order that us humans as naked Goldilocks can be Eden
accommodated via extreme terraforming.

The nearly 50 km or 30 mile wide comet/asteroid that has a high
probability of encountering Mars late in 2014 could go either way, as
very badly or conceivably contribute to whatever Mars already has to
offer. Even a near-miss should cause a partial breakup of this comet
and cause considerable seismic trauma if it passed within 1.1r (339 km
above the surface).

There’s even a slim possibility of a glancing blow that’ll lithobrake
and enable Mars to capture most of the icy and solid remainders of
this one, leaving Mars with a seriously big dent, a greater seasonal
tilt and/or possibly some measurable perturbed orbital shift, as well
as a percentage of the secondary shards coming our way. If the body
and core of this one is mostly ice, means that the average density
isn’t going to be much greater than 1 g/cm3. However, it could host a
25 km solid core of nickel-iron, and that’s going to be capable of
delivering a lethal blow that could mess up the atmosphere of Mars for
several years.

Meanwhile, our physically dark and naked moon with its mostly
paramagnetic basalt crust that’s nearly 100% fused and way tougher
than the relatively thin crust of Earth, as well as the extremely
nearby planet Venus have lots of nifty elements to offer as is.

Besides all the potential of exploiting rare earth elements that by
rights should be within our moon, and the relative ease of TBMs mining
and other mostly robotics processing those for export to Earth, not to
mention the enormous solar and electrostatic charged farads of energy
that our moon could provide via a tethered transmitting element
reaching to within 6r of Earth, there’s always the CVD process of
creating industrial sized diamond on demand, that by itself should
more than pay for the all-inclusive infrastructure needed.

Large scale diamonds could be very useful for all sorts of stuff
(including unlimited length tether fibers) that would make our lives
better, cleaner and safer, not to mention a whole lot less bloody.

The same argument goes for several other elements that our moon should
have to offer.

Once we get rid of the social media gauntlet of naysayers and FUD-
masters like our Usenet/newsgroup contributor "Hagar", that always
gets to hide his/her true ID, is when progress can be made.

Perhaps putting a "dead or alive" bounty on their heads might get this
accomplished, because obviously the upper 0.1% caste of mostly redneck
oligarchs hiding behind faith-based cults/cabals or mafia could care
less about how much of their mainstream damage-control gets away with
intellectual treason that's imposed upon the rest of us.

Hitler counted on this method of mainstream oligarch protection and
media damage control, and for the most part got way better action and
results than he could have other wise achieved.

Earth has more than its fair share of water, even though most of it is
salty, artificially polluted, not always where we need it most and too
often we seem to get too much of it in any one place as stormy,
frozen, thawed and flooding, and at least so far there's no apparent
shortage of oxygen (though eventually that could change as we displace
it with our volumes of CO2, NOx, Sulfurs and the likes of hydrocarbons
along with Corexit toxins plus all things connected with multiple
global military complexes that get to do as they please, just like our
global biodiversity has been forced to change or become extinct
because of us humans).

What Earth is short of (besides common sense) is any number of natural
hydrocarbons and helium, as well as numerous metals plus the vast
amount of energy resources for exploiting, processing and distributing
most of those depleted and/or rare items.

Going off-world will eventually change most of that, and it’ll
directly benefit all of humanity, as well as the global biodiversity
that should in turn directly benefit our global environment in more
ways than just making our mostly white oligarchs richer and more
powerful. The good news is that our trusty moon is a likely treasure
trove of such goodies (especially inside), not to mention what the
extremely nearby planet Venus should have to offer.

Now you can go along with either the traditional and mostly white
oligarch flow of their mainstream status quo (policy of don’t fix
anything if it isn’t already broken), and just sit back and let all
the balls drop wherever they may, or we can look ahead at the greater
potential of what exploiting off-world resources should have to offer
by essentially catching a few of those balls before they hit the
ground and fail to bounce. Instead of ignoring the GW+AGW issues that
are becoming more human caused and/or accelerated than previously
thought, perhaps we can at least consider upon what the relocation of
our moon as being actively situated within Earth L1 can do for us,
instead of it being so close and destabilizing to our global
environment.

Storms are certainly getting bad enough as the GW+AGW makes them more
frequent and measurably worse than before, though adding the extra
sucker-punch of those considerable tidal surges is what is also
clearly costing our planet at least an extra 100 billion per year to
the already trillion+ dollar cost of all those extreme weather and
seismic related issues that should be factored in. So, we get to
spend those trillion plus dollars per year and suffer countless tens
of thousands and even millions of needless deaths each and every year
that’s directly related to those gravitational factors modulating
through our whole planet, and even factoring a wee bit of its IR and
gamma that our trusty moon contributes in ways that we currently have
absolutely no control over nor do we receive any direct benefit from
either of those.

As you should know by now, I could go on and on about the benefits of
relocating our moon, plus otherwise in the meantime reiterating as to
what exploiting the surface and especially its innards should have to
offer. Eventually I’ll restart a new topic and rehash through most of
this along with additional thoughts and revised math, that you can
also contribute to.

Try thinking this one through for yourself, as to considering what our
planet needs (especially if there's world peace and everyone [10+
billion humans] gets to live large)?

The surface of our moon isn’t terribly inviting, even though our NASA/
Apollo era proved it was entirely passive and actually quite
reflective, as well as hardly the least bit radioactive nor even
ionized and wasn’t the least bit dusty to walk or even drive upon its
monochromatic surface, whereas Venus may also be forbidden and
otherwise taboo, as always too hot and nasty for any naked Goldilocks
to fully appreciate, but otherwise it should offer easy access to any
number of valuable elements, as well as offering us a free-for-all
exploitation treasure trove resource that tree-huggers and
environmentalists can march, protest, suck eggs and otherwise bully
all they want because, it’ll do them no good.

I’ve never insisted that terraforming another planet or moon was a
good idea as for accommodating our naked Goldilocks that can’t hardly
manage to survive in Eden without getting into trouble by eating the
forbidden fruit or being eaten alive some preexisting wild monsters,
but when terrestrial resources are becoming only affordable to the
upper caste of oligarchs, and otherwise proxy wars and the usual
policy of FUD are becoming the status quo norm, then perhaps going off-
world isn’t such a bad nor insurmountable idea, of everything from
capturing asteroids and TBMs digging into our moon, there’s always the
extremely nearby planet Venus to exploit.

If we can systematically manage to exploit our planet to the very
brink of failing its 7+ billion human population, plus having
devastated the global biodiversity due to our industrialized methods
of polluting, mass consumptions and the growing lack of natural
resources that’s forcing global inflation in addition to the unpoliced
insider trading plus feeding our military industrial complex and
numerous Ponzi scams that oligarchs don’t seem to mind nor find
anything wrong with, and our having accomplished this task of global
exploitation extensively within the last thousand years, just imagine
how fast we should be able to exploit our moon and the extremely
nearby planet Venus.

If we can otherwise manage to survive for days on end while on the
100% radiated and naked surface of our physically dark and
paramagnetic moon without so much as a scratch or even one X-ray or
gamma photon finding so much as even one photographic grain of their
Kodak film that somehow offered superior dynamic range to the best or
even better than any CCD imaging, and otherwise for humans surviving
onboard ISS while drifting in the hard vacuum of space for months on
end (not to mention other mainstream arguments of going to/from Mars
being represented as no big insurmountable deal, and otherwise as for
cruising 6+ months while remaining deep underwater, as well surviving
terrestrial surface environments of always subfreezing conditions or
of those badly flooded to scorching hot and dry land being perfectly
doable, then perhaps using a composite rigid airship for accomplishing
Venus or especially the use of TBMs for digging deep into our moon,
simply can't be all that insurmountable.
